Time to clean out the freezer -- I think there's still some mastodon down there -- and was wondering what to do. I think some animal rescue places used to take meat. Game meat can't be sent to the reducer or taken to the dump (as far as I know). Maybe I'll have to bury it in the back 40.

Freezer burned meat gets fed to the dogs. If you don't have dogs, I am sure someone nearby does.

Take it in and have sausage made.

or......make some yote bait.

Thaw it and remove the wrapping....then put it in a tapered bucket with a chain in the middle.....fill with water....then stick it back in the freezer.

Then when you're ready to hunt yotes chain it to a tree so the little buggers have to keep coming back to knaw off pieces. Of course, this works best in sub-freezing temps.

Plan better the next time you have meat so it gets used up during the eatable lifetime of the meat!

My dog's fed nothing but raw food. Not shure what mastodon is but I'll take it off your hands if you want. I'm in Langley too

Not related to elephants either.

The local Critter Care in Langley takes game meat. Being single, most years I end up with more meat than I can eat.

If it's not freezer burnt, go for sausage, but you'd better hurry, the meat cutters are going to get real busy soon. If it's toast, I too have a big dog that eats just about anything. You won't have any trouble getting rid of it, you won't even have to leave Langley!!

Heck give it to a guy with dogs, I'd take it if you were on the Island!

Thanks for all the replies. I ended up emtying the freezer -- around 70 pounds -- and took it down the street to Critter Care.

there's a bald eagle sanctuary in the lower mainland where they only feed the birds wild meat until they are healthy enough to be released.
Sometimes it is worth paying your butcher a little more to double wrap your meat so it lasts longer or share the wealth and give more to friends and family so they can appreciate your efforts!!

If you can't eat the meat don't kill the animal. Or at very least give it to someone who can before its 'freezer burnt' or whatever and not to your liking. This kind of thing drives me nuts big time.
