Back at the end of the open bull season my son and I got ready to go for an afternoon moose hunt. He had been drawn for a calf this year so that's what we headed out for. It was raining extremely heavy in town and I asked him if he still wanted to go. After some discussion we decided to go for a short drive up the highway and if it looked too wet, we would turn around. Well by the time we got to where we wanted to hunt, the sun was coming out. Within a couple hours we came upon a young bull at 170 yards. He was staring straight at us so my son lined up and shot once - it didn't move. He reloaded and fired again, this time it dropped out of sight. Head shot and no wasted meat. It was a great time and one we will always remember. Now the pressure is off to fill the freezer and we can take our time deer hunting.

Nice moose! Great to see young guns showing how to get it done. Hoping to get my 10 year old into his first game soon.

That is a nice moose for sure. I have a question though and I don't want to create any undue stress but looking at the picture that animal looks a lot like what the regulations say is a "spike fork bull moose" which is NOT a "calf" as explained in the synopsis.

Did you have a "calf" draw or a "immy" draw or are they the same? Maybe this one is allowed in the "Open" season where you were...

Again, no offense intended, just wondering.

Thanks, Bob

That's not an immy. You can see the paddles up top. He said that his son had a calf LEH but they were in an any bull open area. Doesn't mean you have to take a calf just gives an extra option with the calf LEH.

OK, thanks for the clarification and it was a nice animal, congrats

Exactly BimmerBob. My son had the option of taking a calf by LEH in addition to the any bull season which closed Aug 31.
