I've been tracking this buck for few days and have found his bedding and feeding areas. Tomorrow I will attempt a still hunt for him. I have caught a glimpse of him exiting a marsh. Hope my photo downloads correctly this is my first post.

My, that's a soft and manicured looking hand.

I'm guessing teacher. Or lawyer.

Heavy, older buck. If you saw him exiting a marsh, hopefully you know what his headgear looks like.
Anyways, did you have a chance at him since opening?

I'd say a three point not that big of a track, looks like a small buck.
the track is splayed because the deer is running, not big at all.
.. The buck is very light also, a big buck would sink into the ground.
A record buck needs close to four inches for just the hoof part.
I'd say extreme southern part of muley country maybe a blacktail deer by the size.
Jel .. ( track analysis ) Specialist .. Looks like the track has been tampered with ..
P.S. Please explain how you track a deer for two days in dry tinder thick bush and dry ground ..?

the track looks old? spread apart slightly because the ground was softer when it was made, or it was on the move. Doesnt mean it cant have a nice hatrack up top!

Kinda looks like a 3 toed mulie, must be a monster buck. You better get out there and find him.

It looks many weeks old..........which tells you almost nothing except that a deer walked here some time ago........

It also looked like something else stepped there.......cat? Wolf? Something with pads on it`s feet.

Anyway, keep at it. Try to look for fresh sign and tracks, easy to age when you know when it last rained, heavy wind, morning frost, etc, and hunt that vicinity. Hunt where you`d ecpect deer to be, near edges, along openings, where cover and escape routes exist. Use the thermals and breeze to your advantage.
If it`s crunchy-dry, consider waiting for the deer to come to you. Often you`ll hear them before you see them. If it`s damp and almost noiseless still hunting, then stalking can work.

What region are you hunting?

You have to be more selective when tracking. A track in soft or wet ground is often exaggerated if they slide a little. Some heavier does and some bucks will have their toes spread apart a bit more in soft ground too.
Find a track on firmer ground early AM when the dew has been disturbed by a deer. That's when you get a great read.

LMAO Pappy. The best deer track is the one with a deer in it.

To tell you the truth that track ain't worth following it's a poor quality deer. Too light to sink in the ground, and small. Get a track that sinks in the ground more than the other tracks in the area. Size minimum length mule is three and a quarter inches long with worn toes rounded off at the tips of the hoof. In the rut the buck walks with it's weight leaning forward so the front third of the front hoofs appear short on hard ground.
That track your showing isn't worth losing sleep over imho..unless it's a mind game your playing .. with the deer ..
Jelly (tricks and skills) Kills .. Dead skunk in the middle of the road .. I was hunting big buck I got a toad ..
