Abby, my Black lab, would've turned 3 end of Sept, died at about 14:00 at the Vets house today. Her and our 5 mos old Pomeranian got into a container of "Acti-zyme" used in septic tanks. We are not sure what really happened as their wasnt much of it eaten but our lab had dug small holes all around the yard to vomit in. Both dogs were really sick yesterday morning, but Koda(pom)started to get better but Abby didnt. This stuff is not supposed to be harmful for animals, but for some reason Abby took it bad. She was a great dog who we've had since she was a pup, My wife has had her ups and downs with her over the last 3 years(the puppy years),and I think she is taking it the hardest. We buried her in our backyard, with my daughter 6yrs and son 4yrs both helping.I know we all take this on when we have dogs, but it doesnt make it easier to deal with. Going to be pretty hard to look at my whistles without feeling a lump in my throat for a while. going to miss ya pup!

This would've been her first real season on upland birds. She brought back 4 birds last year with no training at all. Going to be a different season without her.

Having any pet die is like losing a family member, it is never easy and only time will heal the loss. Sorry to hear about your loss hope she didn't suffer much and is watching over you from doggie heaven.

Sorry for the loss.

Just reading how kids that have pets/farm animals when they're growing up and lose them to whatever deal with human loss way better. Makes sense.

Rob and family

I am so so very sorry for the loss of your sweet Abby. I know we talked quite a bit about her not too long ago and I was thrilled how things were working out for you with her. My heart has a heavy weight of sorrow for your family as you all grieve and share memories of Abby's accomplishments in her short time with you.

My most sincere condolences to you and your family, I lost my first purebred Rottweiler boy to "Addison's Disease" at that same age, over 20 years ago and it bothers me.

Pets, while they can be a hassle, are one of the best things in our lives and losing one, especially young, is just awful. Hope, you have a good photo to keep on your mantle.

Bummer! I put my lab down about a month ago due to cancer and it just wasn't the same without the old boy. We had talked about not getting a dog for a while but we found some pups that needed a good home. I only hope that the new pup is half as good a Jake was..

Sorry to hear about your loss..

Very tough - sorry for you all. But I like it that you all buried your dog in the back yard. Nice to share that even if it wasn't nice. My sympathies.

Rob, I just went through this a couple of moths ago. They leave us far too early in life. My boy was only 6. The hurt does start to fade after awhile . Keep your chin up and remember all the good times.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Rob. It always yanks your heart around when you lose a family member whether they are a two-footed one or a four footed one.

I lost my Briard over a year back and I still feel the hole that was left in my heart by that.

I wish you and your family well in the days to come.

Hey Rob, sad story for sure. Marshall will be 3 on the 16th. I remember you getting your dog roughly the same time as me.

It really sucks and hurts losing a dog of any age, I really feel for you as no one expects a dog to go at the age of 3. I cried like a little baby when I had to put my 12 year old lab down about a year ago. It does get easier over time but the good memories last a lifetime.

It would be interesting to get a toxicology test done on the sceptic enzimes you mentioned. If it killed a dog there should be some sort of warning on the box.

My Vet said he would be contacting some people in regards to this. Guess we are going to start looking another Lab pretty quick, like to find one around 2yrs old though.

Sorry to hear about your loss Rob. It's really hard to lose one of your pets especially at such a young age. They are family members and for you a hunting partner. Thoughts are with you and your family.

So sorry for your family. Hard to imagine the hurt, it makes us all snuggle our pups a little longer today. They are friends first, and dogs second.
