Was up at a friends cabin on the weekend that he built out in the middle of the bush on a remote lakeshore this past weekend. We were talking about how great in would be snowshoe to his cabin in the winter, only problem is we don't have a heat source. I'm looking for either a lightweight sturdy collapsible stove or suggestions to another means of heating his cabin. Any ideas?

Thanks

Paul

How far of a snowshoe are we talking? Maybe just take a cheapy and leave it there in the summer?

Ya we were talking about that, only problem is it's a 7km hike with 700m elevation gain....you know of any lightweight mortar?

All the supplies were hiked in.The guy that built the cabin hiked in a saw, spikes and hatchets for building the cabin. He's just not super keen on packing mortar into the location, so a lightweight stove is what were looking for.

saw one made out of an old propane tank. not exactly folding but fairly light. i think there was one on here about propane stoves.

Cabela's has one that is what I would choose and there is a stove dealer in Castlegar, who can probably help.

Your buddy has my "dream" setup, having been a multi-season fire L/Oman, I would love a foot access only little hut, high in the mountains, if I could find a small "deeded" piece of land to put it on.

I would also pack in a two burner propane stove and a couple of propane lanterns, Cabela's has the gizmo to re-fill the little green bottles from a bulk tank, so, you can hump an extra 4-6 of them in with each pack trip and be well equipped for hunting season.

I was looking at these portable wood stoves before, read good reviews about them.

Just build a stove from a 10 gallon drum or buy a hippie killer of desired size, not folding but not heavy either!

I have a kifaru stove and was very happy with it, the medium stove worked great, and at 4 or 5 lbs packing it in was no problem, snowed 3 of 6 nights on us, fired up the stove each morning, what a comfort to have
