It's been pretty warm here the last few days, hunting's been slow, lots of bear, grouse and a nice 4 point Muley that wouldn't slow down for a shot. But this morning we had rain and a good wind blowing, prefect for hunting. We left the house at day break on the quad, we stopped at one logging landing where we always see deer, but this morning there was nothing. We headed up the road to a big basin where Kato shot his buck last year, we glassed for a few minutes but to no avail. I turned the quad around to head to a area just above us that usually has deer around, then when we were going past the landing we just glassed earlier there standing broad side was this guy! Kato had the 243 Savage loaded and ready to fire in a second, one shot at about 75 yrds and the buck jumped and kicked and off he went!!! I can't walk much but I managed to Bino the buck run then stagger and pile up below us!!! My Daughter and Son in Law came up with the other Quad and trailer and we were home by 9:am!!! Now we'll see how we make out looking for a White Tail, we heard a rumor about a real nice one on the ranch down the road from us, lets see if we can get a Double Header!!! http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/medium/Photos_538_Medium_.jpg

WOW beautiful deer young man congratulations on a having a dad that gets you out with him there are many that do not take their kids with them you are very lucky...

I understand how your dad must feel my older son is now 25 years old and it was an awesome experience when he got his first buck and now I can hardly wait to get my youngest son out this fall he is only 3 1/2 years old though...

Well, this morning was the first time Kato and I could get out hunting again since he shot his Muley Buck. We got away late, about 7:am, we left the house on the Quad, we just cross the road and go through my neighbors place and were in the bush. We seen a WT doe in Lanes yard that got our spirits up, we took a trail over to a friend of mines Alpha fields, we just got to the top fields and there to the left is a spike WT buck!!! In a second it was over a small knoll so I kept driving up a bit to see if we could catch it crossing the fence. I hit the brakes, turned off the bike and slid off the left side of the Quad, we had to, the right side was full of deer!!! Straight ahead were 3 Muley Bucks, to the left were about 6 WT does and fawns!!! We couldn't see the Whitie buck, we loaded the 243, I grabbed my camera and took 57 pictures over the next 30 minutes!!! We never seen the Spike Wt buck again, he must have went over the fence, but we had the 3 Muley bucks come right up within 50 feet of us!!! Got some great video!!! Any way, I can't walk much because my legs go numb and I fall down after a few yards most of the time, but I said to Kato" Lets try to hike up to the top of the knoll and have a peek for the buck", off we go! It was only 75 feet, but seemed like a death march to me!!! There was a 3 foot stump we walked to, there was a WT doe with 2 fawns standing by the fence, suddenly to Kato's left, about 50 feet away runs a Coyote!!! He's after the fawns!!! Kato is locked and loaded, resting on the stump, the Fawns can't make it through the fence, I let out a squeal on the back of my hand, the Yode hits the brakes, turns and looks at us, and Kato fires!!! He roll's over twice, crawls into some brush and expires!!! All the deer run away!!! Time to go home, were on our way back and I stop for a coffee and a sandwich at a new logging slash. Just start pouring a coffee and 100yrds up the skidder trail out walks a deer, it's a 2 point WT buck!!! The guns loaded again, bipod down and BANG! The buck walks off to the left, we wait about 3 minutes and back it comes!!! Bang!!! I see it go down, up it gets and down to the creek it runs out of sight!!!My Daughter and Son in Law were at the house, so we whip back and get them to search for the buck. Well, after 2 1/2 hours, no blood, hair nothing, it's raining so very little tracks either!!! We really hope both shots were miss's, if it was hit I'm sure we'd seen some sign, but all in all, one hell of a long weekend!!! There's some photo's of the bucks in my Gallery if you want to see how our morning hunt went!!! Marv.
