today my foreman was on the fraser highway, just south west of mt lehman and he spotted a 2 pont bull elk wandering around in a field on the side of the road about 100 yds in. this guy is a successful hunter and knows what he is looking at, so he is not a raving lunatic. has anyone else seen such a thing around that area??

Could have been an escapee from the Vancouver Zoological centre, it's not far from that area.

Here is another pic of the elk from Silverdale. Not to far from my place. He was first spotted up around Rolley lake. Think he came out from the upper Stave lake area, They planted elk there in 1995.http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/data/500/DSCN0789.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/photos/showphoto.php?photo=19814&ppuser=699)

There used to be a small herd of somewhere in the 20 animal range up chilliwack river valley close to Allison pools. Apparently the story goes a group of native youths shot most of the cows in the dark one night basically killing off that herd, thinking they were deer....................??? Anyway I have heard of a few small pockets in and around chilliwack on a few occassion, Columbia Valley apparently has some too!?!?! Elk numbers often explode if there is any amount of viable breeders around, so it kind makes me wonder if they are in the valley the dont seem to be doing very well....until maybe now!

Doesn't surprise me

15-20 years ago the C/O's came out to to reports from a farmer near Popkum
that a bull Elk was trying to mate his dairy cows.

The Elk may have come down the Jones lake road into the field.

A few years ago in B.C Outdoors magazine there was a report of a Bull moose poached by Sowaqwa road on the lower Coquihalla. So I guess they're around.

Elk are moving thru,, one killed on hiway between young and prest 3 or 4 years ago countless sightings 5 years back in RyderLake and around Thurston prison camp part way up Chilliwack lake rd. Also talked to timber blazers that found sheds and sign all around Center crk. just past the bench, foley / chipmunk turn off.. Dad and I also found sheds while on horseback in the early 90's.. So without a season and good winters the population should grow! I'm excited to see more down the road..
