I've just moved from northern Manitoba. Love the area(Elk Valley) and can't wait to get out. Just gonna scout area and feel things out this year though. I'm used to moose hunting in heavy swamp areas and caribou hunting in freezing cold weather(-40 C -> -60 C) so this is a little different.

Welcome Vinny!!:-D
You picked an awesome part of the province to call home!!

Yes, you'll have to do a little travelling for Bou's and most likely moose unless you're lucky enough to get a moose draw close to home. But you've got a real smorgasbourg of critters to chase in your backyard!

Not to mention elk :) If you haven't had elk yet it's frequently hailed as one of the better hunts and some of the finest meat.

I'm from Thompson, MB. If your not familiar with Thompson, you go to Winnipeg and then head straight north 800 km's.

Yo Vinnie, you got any Thompson Turkey stories for us? I haven't been there for an update in about 30 years! Fred

I actually saw a Thompson Turkey land on my garbage can(the kind that have locking handles on either side), he then proceeded to jump up and down on it until the locks popped open. He then stood on the handle and flipped the lid off and found it to be all in vane because it was full of wood. It was interesting to see how smart they are even though the whole time I was wishing for my 12 guage and a clear shot.

I dunno Vinnie, do you think the 12 would be enough gun for one of those Thompson Turkeys? The bugger just might turn on you!!! Fred

A 12 at close range can really make a mess but may have a hard time getting close enough while dodging those helicopters we call misquitos

Have you met those voracious little buggers they call mosquito's here Vinnie? It is darned near worth ones life to go out for 1 or 2 weeks in the spring when they start to hatch in every hoofprint! Fred

Maybe it stayed cold enough for long enough to knock those little blighters down.
Hey Cliff, were the skeeters bad this spring. I have been up on both the Whiosaw and Blakeburn for the first hatches and they drove us back to the truck. The second time(Blakeburn) I even had long sleeves and a mosquito hat but still had to run for it! Fred
