I am curious as to what other hunters camps look like.

Do you use expensive fancy walltents, or pop up car garages from costco? Do you tow an RV so you can pick up and move camp anytime, or set up a tent in one spot for the whole hunt?

We use rebar, pvc pipes, and tarps to make our tent. As soon as I figure out how to post pics I'll show you our setup.

Come on guys, show us pictures of your setups. This should be interesting.

Kudos to those who have animals hanging in their photos as well.:-D

Sometimes, I enjoy seeing more animals than hunters and don't like humpin' it back to camp at the end of a long day up the mountain, so I bring it all w/ me... had a bull serenade us from 60 yards away this night... Here's 'Camp Bear Burrito'

Hey Moose2... set up for some serious hunting. I would sure feel better with all those fuel containers a little further away from the tent.... I know, I know, getting more cautious as the years go by. No offence.

I was on a riverboat headin up the dease river a few years back, just upstream from moose meadows. We came around a bend and saw a sign hangin on a walltent that said "BAR". We pulled in of course. A couple friendly gents appeared and asked us what we wanted to drink. Good thing there were no cops on that river that day.

Teach the newbie time...

I've camped since I was a nipper (in the UK) and I've NEVER seen some of the stuff posted here. I've lived in houses smaller than some of these camps - must have taken you all the off-season to cart the gear out there! LOL!

For those with meat poles - how do you keep the carnivores (bears, wolves, coyotes, Sasquatch even... ) away from the meat? Must have a scent signature the size of the Northern Lights!

Apologies if it is a dumbass question - where I grew up the only thing you had to keep off your meat were flies and farmers daughters.

Drive up the fraser canyon in October and you'll be amazed the stuff you see!
That is the trouble, eliminating what you dont need. But if you get a good utility trailer you can pack alot in them. Just make sure you have room for meat!

Tie them high! well thats what i do. I have heard of people having bear trouble lots. In the 20 some years i have hunted i have never had trouble.
And the biggest rule to Game poles,,,, always tie up your own! I have watched a number of moose crash from a busted pole.

as for the tasty morcels we hang em' and hang em' high:) if we have a bear problem we shoot it... problem solved

What the heck is that on the big trailer?

That trailer has a meat house built on the middle with a reefer unit attached and powered by a generator on the tongue of the trailer. The ATV's travel fore and aft. There are storage units at the back end and on top of the house and front. There are 2 40 gallon fuel tanks on the underside to carrry extra fuel.

This was one of the coldest nights I've spent in a tent without heat. The snow was squeaky when we got up that morning.

I notice you have one of those isobutane type fuel canisters in front of your tent, how well did it work at those lower temperatures?

They work alright, I kept it inside that night and it boiled water fine that morning. Had I left it in the vestibule it would probably be a different story.

I use the Primus 4 season Mix. Haven't tried any others so I can't say it works better or worse.

Getting a lot of questions regarding the lodge [Moose is Loose Trailer] so I thought I would give my private messages a rest and fill in some blanks.

Its a 20ft by 8-6ft 10,000 gvw Continental trailer with extra head height.
Has an 8 inch lift and is totally insulated.
Gen-set ready with in-line deep cell batteries.
Full size fridge with freezer and forced air furnace.
Custom side windows with a chimney door.
Airtight woodstove with 8 inch pipe.

Sleeps 4 with full size bunks
3 burner propane stove
toaster, coffee maker, microwave and sat radio, t.v. with the dvd.
table sits 5 for dinner
Hauls 3 quads with one in the truck box
18ft awning for working over the webber barbi

Speced out the trailer and ordered it through Cummings in Aldergrove, it arrived pretty much bare inside and finished it off myself. Everything is hinged and folds away to fit the quads etc. The propane stove you see has a whole drilled through the fender well where the propane hose goes out to hookup with the bottle outside. Trailer is also hard wired for co detector and smoke detectors.

Hauls great with the duramax, you would need an extended tongue for the short boxes if you want to put a tailgate down to fit a quad.

Yeah got stopped at hope this season, weight scales guy re weight with truck and trailer, bumping up your gvw, etc., cured that problem by getting a license for an r.v. as we use it to sleep in, just a heads up for other guys who have been stopped and fined.

Hopefully that answers a few questions guys later Hunterguy.

Man, there are some nice rigs here...makes me think my little backpack tent is slightly inadequate (and then I remember...I've got to haul the thing somehow).

I'll generally pitch my mountain hardware tent for any trip. I've also been known to crash in the cab of the truck from time to time.

http://www.sandmanhotels.com/hotel/bc/cranbrook

And part of this nice and friendly hotel, is a 24 hours Dennis Restaurant.

Most good hunting is within one hours drive from Cranbrook.

You just pack your hunting gear. Also far cheaper than most other hunting camps, where you have to pack trailers, campers, tent, cooking stuff, food etc.

Heavy tailers and campers takes you longer to get to the hunting grounds, as well as make you spend much more money on gas.

I find that a lot of good hunting in B.C. can be reached comfortably from many local hotels/motels, and many of the motels also have complete "kichenettes".

Often, many of these motels have good off season rates for the hunters. Around $ 60.- a day for a room is not a unusual rate, which can hold as many as four hunters. Some of them even offers you a place to hang your meat, as well as give you advice of good places to hunt locally :)

I also like to support these local B.C. businesses when I hunt.

Well, I guess after years of hunting from campers and fly in hunting camps, I realize that really do enjoy the comforts and services of what hotel/motel/restaurants can offer, especially at the end of a long day of hard hunting in rain, snow etc :)

If there are no restaurants near these remote hotel/motels, an electric slow cooker can have your supper ready when you arrive back again at the end of the day.

And staying in a hotel/motel while hunting, does not in any way reduce your succes rate for game. I have so far, never noticed any difference.

DRyer vent hose is a very dangerous choice for stove pipe. It tends to melt and fill the tent with smoke before igniting it. Hell of a way to wake up...if you do.

What a great thread!

It really re-affirms my thoughts that I need to invest in a nice quality 12x14 wall tent with an internal frame and a nice wood stove. Some late season hunts would be great to do in one and there is just something cool about a wall tent camp.

BimmerBob

Here is the first set up of my wall tent during last years hunting season, 12 x 14 and think maybe a bit bigger would have been nice but it works.

I am still not happy with the stove, water tank is nice but need to fix the supplied fitting to ensure it doesn't leak and thinking of putting a swinging smoke shelf in to reduce smoke while draft is starting.

I think the best part of wall tents is having a nice stove but finding one that is perfect is a hit and miss experience.

The stove should heat a 16 x 20 and it burns a good 8 hours when stoked up and full but gets too warm for me if the draft is left open for any time at all. We were out Aug/Sept so I am sure November it would be working a bit harder. The water jacket loses a lot of water over night as the top is not sealed (just a hinged lid) so it is something to watch carefully as burning with it dry may not be a good idea.

I need to build a wooden box for the stove for packing and if you notice the stove exit pipe in the pic you will see it is part of the originally supplied nesting pipe. The damn hole does not quite take a 5" pipe so I jury rigged this mess. I need to get my buddy pnbrock to make me a proper transition for it.

Footprint is about 20 x 34 ft including tarp & porches
Tarp go's too ground from roof line, this provides additional storage, protection from weather and keeps water from pooling & running back into tent
Front porch holds BBQ, Bar & wash station, back porch has been used for storage, ATV garage, hanging game & over flow sleeping. Has doors front & back
Have camped in -25 f but really needed a bigger wood stove for that
Water jacket has a adjustable spacer so not to boil dry

After being away 5 days we got in camp mid afternoon for a evening hunt.........so not happening

Tarp blew off from wind so usually slides off tarp but this time wet snow got to canvas which holds it, much already melted in the pic, tent swimming in pools of water.

Rebuilt, with lots of bending & rigging, cranked up fire had a great dinner, a great sleep & great morning hunt
We got lucky as sleep bags were on cots & pretty dry

All incl. a great 2007 Elk hunt & camp.

Wow...your camp sure brings back memories.
Husband and I had a setup like yours when our girls turned 3 1/2 years old.
We camped for two weeks in Golden where we enjoyed our wall tent. I loved it..... unfortunatley I'm a very light sleeper so any noice I heard I was instantly wide awake with a racing heart.
We put two queen size byb's (build your own beds) , a patio set ( without the umbrella) and a wood stove and there was still lots of room for coolers and other things.
Did two weeks of grouse hunting.....and that's all the girls wanted to eat.

I do have pictures of our setup, unfortunately it's on a 35mm roll.

Now we go camping in a 28 ft motorhome.

Yes its an old bottom, hell of a hiding spot...... lots of dry wood, no wind and even the odd bull elk kickin around.

Moose Camp set up from september to november, a whole bunch of use it, almost always someone there.

Here's the common room we built for when there was a whole bunch of us out there, log frame and all tarped in, watching the canucks game and thanksgiving grouse dinner! I can't seem to find a picture of the outside of it.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/74406_460084612087_515602087_5392810_2020554_n.jpg

Here's where we slept! we put a wood fireplace in the awning as well, must have took these pictures before it was installed! We would open all the windows and doors and the wood heat would keep the whole place nice and warm. Rolled out a old piece of carpet for floor, kept it nice and clean.

Here she is all tarped in, Ugggggly! but worked great! We added a fully functional door in the front there, as well as some windows. Was a lot of fun, almost like having a cabin out there, we'd go every weekend!

It looks like you used scaffolding for the tent poles and the table. That's an excellent idea. It would pack away easily and yet still be quite strong if a wind came up.

Good looking family. Reminds me of when I was a little tyke and my mom and dad were still with us. I've been to Hawaii and through the states but those family camping trips and later hunting trips with my dad when I was 11ish were the best memories of them all.

This is our 'get-up'.
During the summer, we haul every 'toy' to the camp.
During hunting season....only the quads come and maybe the inflatable fishing boat.

The motorhome is pretty-well self sufficient. Has solar panels, and generator ( we hardly ever use). No hook-ups for this baby.

This picture was taken before the trailer was unloaded.

Notice the camo jacket on my hunting partner.
The lady poster that related about camping near Golden brought this to mind.
A couple of times I shot out of this in the middle of the night, like the night I thought some large canivore was knawing on the plywood underneath.
Not to forget the night that the wind pulled the rear stake out and the tent collapsed forward. Partner said I shot out of it like toothpaste out of a tube if you had laid it on the bathroom counter and slammed your fist into it.
