Hey everyone,

I am preparing for my first hunting trip. Im in a group hunt for my LEH 2 bull moose in 5-04 zone B in Oct 1-14. I was wondering where can I find recent backroad maps and even topo maps so I can try and think of areas worth while investigating. any tips as to where I can find these or hints of areas to go would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

a friend on mine had a L.E.H draw for bull last year, i can't remember the exact m.u but i am pretty sure that it was close to 5-4, but he wasn't successful. i wish you best of luck for your first hunt.

Backroad Mapbooks is decent, not perfect, but the great advantange to them is you can get their maps for your Garmin GPS, which your MUs on them, so you always know exactly where you are, even in new places. They also have it on CD and in books as well. They do have roads, water features, back roads, logging roads, trail data...of course some stuff might be missed, but unless you get a sat photo from yesterday, you're likely not going to get much better info for the Cariboo.

He is right. The BC Backroads maps that you can put on your Garmin GPS are top notch. If you own a Garmin GPS it should come with a mapping software program called Mapsource. You can view differnt maps products with mapsource and the BC Backroads Topo maps work in them as well. The good thing with the map program and the BC Backroads topo is the ability to zoom in and out. Look up places as well as build routes and up load and download tracks and waypoints to your Garmin GPS. As well the Garmin GPS works just as well as a navigation tool in your vehicle just like an Auto GPS on steroids.

I use my Garmin Colorado GPS every day in the semi and in my pickup as well as on the quad. I would say my GPS get used anytime I am mobile in a vehicle. I would dream of going anywhere with out it. As a matter of fact I can now download satelite imagery to the Garmin and it overlays over top of the regular maps. This can be turn on and off at will.

Presently I use The Garmin world base map, The Garmin Topo Maps, BC Backroads Topo Maps and Birdseye Satelite Imagery all at the same time.
I also have all the same software on the laptop as well as Fugawi and Ozi Explorer.

If you purchace the BC Backroads maps on CD you are better to buy the ones that install on a Garmin GPS as they are the same but you have the ability to install the maps on a GPS instead of just looking at them on a computer.

Hope this helps.

Here is a little bit of info that I have for you. If you go into http://www.anglersatlas.com you will have to sign up for the free maps. It costs you nothing and you can down load all the topographical maps you want to your hearts content.

Free is always good. Happy Hunting.

Another free garmin map is ibycus 2.1 (this is the best version) can be downloaded as a torrent file.
Garmin's mapsource is a free download and can be used for installing ibycus on your gps OR just to view the map on your computer
