wierd white tail behaviour?

Yesterday we saw a nice 4 or 5 pt whitey folowing a lone doe with his nose at her butt and following her around.We just got some colder weather with frost on the mtns , but isn't that kinda wierd too see this kinda behaviour so early in the season or did he just run into her and wanted to check her out?

on sept 10 a few years a go my budy shot a buck the was chasing a doe he said the buck had his nose near the does but my buddie shot spun the buck around the deer got up and still continued to chase the doe. these were mule deer
