My question is if I am 30 feet up in a tree stand and my cross bow is traveling 300fps the animal passes by at 30 yards ,note this cross bow is zeroed in at 30 yards on flat ground.

Will this bolt be right on the zero mark if up 30 feet and I shot at the animal at 30 yards ???

I will do some shooting up 30 feet in a tree and out to 30 yards when I get into my camp on Wed this week just want to know from you experts ???? ..

Have you got a rangefinder that has ballistic compensation or what's called ARC in it?

If not, then your going to have to practice to see where you hit - I'm sure it's going to be high. How high, I can't say as I don't have an angle compensating rangefinder to check it out.

There is a mathematical formula to work things like that out, but I can't recall it and I was never very good at arithmetic anyway.

is it 30 yards line of sight or 30 yards horizontal distance ....

lets say its 30 yards line of sight ... you recall Pythagrums theory ... for a right angle triangle ... 30 feet high = 10 yards ... the line of sight is 30 yards ... so we are looking for horizontal distance ... AA + BB =CC ...
we know the hieght is A(10) so thats 100 ... we know LOS = (C)30 so thats 900 ... so (CC-AA=)900-100=800(BB)
square root of 800= 28.28 =B

so if you see 30 yards from 30 feet up a tree ... shoot it for 28 yards because thats how far horizontal distance you have to shoot it for

Personnally i think 30 ft is to high .You won't have much of a oppurtunity for double lung at that angle at 30 yards. Why so high?

Maybe I should drop down to 20 feet hi then the bolt directortry wont be on as much of an angle..

I know one thing I will be doing lots of praticing at my target in the next week.

30 feet? wow! the furthest ive ever been up a tree was 18 feet. as long as you got good back cover ive never really worried about going up too too high. . . . last time i was i the koots' i had whitetail hanging out under me and i was only 13 or 14 feet up. .............

LOL I never hunted with a bow from a tree stand before I used the tree stand for rifle thats why I went up so hi in it.

But I just talked to a darn good bow hunter and he told me that 20 feet is as hi as you want to go up a tree when shooting a bow http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif..

Like I said I will have the next week to practice shooting from the top of my roof and seeing how my grouping is at 20 ,30 ,40 yards ,the top of my roof is 15 feet up from the ground ..

Wayne, I practiced in a gravel pit with a x-bow at those high angles and used a PSE Viper rattler 280 FPS. BowZone Mikey is on. At 30 yds. aim for 28 they are very flat at close ranges reguardless of the angle.

Why don't you set up a target and try it out instead of getting advice on here concerning such an important shot. It could be the miss of a lifetime.
