BCBoy- Steve used my .338 with the 200gr Barnes X for the long shots. I was more comfortable loaning him the rifle than a shot with the .444 with open sights. 187yrds was better with a scope.

Still taking Symon out, only problem now is he is too picky. He says the Bear has to be an 8 footer or he is not interested:shock::eek:

congrats but how big is he ????

Over 400lbs, tried to calculate it weighing the hide, quarters, fat,etc and we got about 450lbs or so.
With the hide off, no stretching, hide was 7ft 5inches nose to tail. Steve also laid down beside the bear after we got up to it (again measuring nose to tail) and it was quite a bit longer than Steve. Steve is 6ft 5inches tall. Skull is still in the head and hide. Will have to wait for skull measurements when he gets the skull back from the taxidermist.

Steve also wants ideas of places to go that do a good job on bear rugs. Give him some places people

Nice looking bruin!

Thanks I like the scare now here is the question. The bear that gave him the
scare did he win or loose... MAybe there is a grandady of all bears
up there somewhere

MooseSpotter

congrats, nice job, hope can get one like yours this season.

Thanks, The snow is till on the roads uptop in the sunshine coast, so you
still have a few weeks before the flys and dreded flys....

remember if you can't sooht the animal with iron sigths reliably then
chances are your rope will no be long enought to pull him out with the truck.

Hola! That is one big noggin! I can't wait for the skull measurement of that one.

I am getting the hide mounted so it'll be a few months before i get the skull
back. But when I do i'll post the results. It seems to be just a hair shy smaller
than elkhounds bear width wise but my bear was longer it'll be close anyway.

cheers

excellent bear, congrats you guys, job well done

Thanks I guess I was the only one looking out of my window.
It was the perfect spot for a big lazy bear.
The kill shot was with my .444 but elkhound loaned my his 338 easier
with the scope. I have not practised yet with my rifle at that range (no scope).
