Heading out tomorrow for some sturgeon fishing around Lillooet.

Just curious what setups others have?
Type/make of Rod & Length?
Make of Reel?
Line size & type?
Leader size & type?

I started with a cheapie combo Shakespear unit but i want to upgrade and keep the cheapie as a back-up.

Shore or boat fishing??
-I use the Techniums and they are a great rod, but, IMHO, they are not a shore rod, too hard on these sensative rods to be hucking out your weights......
-Reels comes down to what you can afford.... penn 330 is a good entry level reel (actually great reel unless you ar fishing them all the time!) TLD20 is the next step up and a better reel (again IMO)
-Line weight, everyone is different, some like 100#, some 130#, some like 200#.... depends on the type/style you fish!
-Leader length? I like 20-24" depending on the bait I am using....
-hooks, 9/0 or 10/0 for me

I would say its close to 50/50 - shore vs boat

Techniums are great rods and I would never change them, that being said, I never shore fish...... as you know, from a boat you are just lobbing them out, where from shore you need some distance......!

Trouble is for me, I like the techniums so much that I would be hard pressed to change to something else to have dual purpose!!

hmmm I have several ACCURATE reels the BIG 30 wide... 2 speed with 100 # line has been waiting for several years for a MONSTER..got really good fish but waiting for the WALTER..

The reel WILL put over 100 # s drag ..twin titanium brakes between stainless..a beast..Leasman has seen this reel they dont come any better..

the rod is a custom made CALSTAR graphiter..model GF 760 H..130 # RATING for line .....with 6 s/s rollers and roller tip...just stand back and pull..it'll take it and more..that combo would easily handle shark and 300 # yellowfin Supercows..(yellowfin tuna ) with Dino fishing its not a sprint its a marathon..

Yes pretty pricey outfit..but fishing with Leasman..Priceless..

we have a 6 foot ugly stick with a 330 penn sensitive tip and tough to boot .40lb big game mono

I have a okuma soltera slx 15 and i had it on a 5.8 speed jiggin rod which shit the bed today so i replaced it with a 6.5 foot okuma rod .30lb big game mono

also have a 9 foot shimano rod with a daiwa saltist . 30lb big game mono.

Much prefer the shorter rods in the boat and the newer crop of short rods are sensitive yet very strong.

You have far more muscle with a short rod .

I used to run those berkley big cat rods with pen 320's loaded with 100# braid!

30" Strugeon leader to a 5-6\0 Gammy. and yes to slip weight system too!

Bait is one I keep under my hat though!
