Iam heading down to Lillooet to go sturgeon fishing tomorow night, that fishing always really slows down during the heat of the day so we fisgure we may as well head down the river a bit and see if we can find some good spots to get some sockeye. We will have baitcasting rods attempting to bottom bounce them but being the fly fisher that Iam the sage 6wt is most definatelt going to get a chance at it. Any reccomendations on where abouts to fish there or how fly fishing for sockeye is? Im going to assume that is not as effective as bottom bounching but i will be using a type 7 sinking line to get me down and then maybe a 7 foot leader with a bright fly on the end. Could add a very small split shot to get that leader down a couple more feet as well. Its worth a shot anyone I hope for the best.

Not sure if you can legally fish for Sockeye up that high??? If you can the only place I can think of is right in town (where another larger creek enters the Fraser). That is about the only spot I have seen with a somewhat of a bar that I assume would have a gental gravel bottom.

The rest of the Fraser in the area is has steep sides and large boulders next to the creek. I would think if you tried bottom bouncing anywhere in there your gear would be lost each cast.

I went across the bridge there on sunday and the river looked pretty dirty to me. Or is it always that color?

I think it's always pretty grey.

One of the highlights of a trip to the coast as a kid was to watch the blue Thompson meet the grey Fraser at Lytton.

Looks like Sockeye is open in Lillooet

From the confluence of the Fraser/Seton River downstream to fishing boundary signs located on both sides of the river approximately 4km downstream of the town of Lillooet.

The river is likely brown due to the recent huge slide up above Meager creek.
I suspect that the salmon run in that river system is going to take a beating this year and for a few years to come, at least till the slide area stabilizes somewhat??

I think the original question was referring to where the Seton River joins up with the Fraser River at Lillooet. Perhaps when he gets back from his trip he can confirm this.
