for the guys who do the august moose and elk hunt in the peace region, how do you keep you meat from spoiling in the heat?

If your a way's of the beaten path and don't have a freezer. Hang you meat in a thick grove of trees out of the sun. Spraying the meat with a vinegar/water solution will help to keep the bugs off and help it skin over quicker. If it's that hot and you'd got some driving to do, plan to leave late afternoon and drive through the night.

Skin it and cheese cloth it fast! Split the pelvis and open up the shoulders along the ribcage. Cut out any bloodshot meat right away! Hang it in the shade on an east or north facing hillside, or down in a gully with cool air drainage. Get it to a cooler or freezer right away! Plan for this before you head out hunting be prepared and you will not lose any meat! If you are heading out without a plan for the downed game, you will lose your valuable prize, game meat!! Moosin

if your in camp and have running water (river/creek). bone meat out and place in rubber made totes, add some more weight (rocks) if necessary and place the totes in the water. this will act like a refrigerater at camp!

Dry Ice in a cooler would work well. I worked at a dry ice dealer once and hunters would come in and buy a couple of pounds.

How I do it is I take a deep freezer and a generator and deal with the meat right there on the spot..
