I have a LEH group hunt for moose.I was reading a old post concerning limited access to the east of babine lake, and limited access to Takla lake area. The posts I read were from 2007. Is access still a concern?
The other question is, how late in the year does the barge run and how do we get a permit?

the barge is owned/operated by Babine Barge under contract to Canfor, both are in the Houston phonebook

The big barge will likely not be operating in the fall. The small barge can not be used by non Canfor types (for insurance)

Used to be they wouldnt let you on the barge if you were obviously heading to hunt.that said you can access the area thru ft.st.james,up the tache rd then northwest to takla lake, cross the Middle river and head up west side of takla lake.We have hunted tha area for years and alway came up thru ft.st.james.There is a gate up the northwest arm of takla comeing from this other dirrection but juring hunting season its usually closed.

I'd maybe give the Fort St. James Forest District Office a call and see if anyone there can give you information on whether or not that gate will be closed. Or maybe they can point you in the right direction.

thanks for the info guys, one more question, what is the deer population like in the area, is it worth the effort to try and find some whitties or not.

Crossing the middle river is the way to go to access this area, I have chatted with guys who have hunted this area for some time and they rarely see deer in there, I believe better deer hunting is to be had towards Houston.

coast 1,hunt the higher cutblocks early till noon,do some calling morning and last hour of light up high, the big bulls will be roaming the wooded mountain tops for a while longer then start heading down to the valley for the cows.Seen a big sow griz with two big cubs 2 years ago near the sakenichy.Hunting can be good all along that area all the way back to dust creek.
