Have you got it scored? I'm guessing the 95-98 mark. Either way, nice blacktail! Congrats!

I used 3 different light sources to paint this:

- 1 strobe high and from the front.
- 1 reflector low and from the front.
- 1 strobe w/ a red gel, shot on a black background (roll-stock paper).
- Super-Uber quality pro glass.
- Decent camera.

The lighting set up that was used on the deer is known as 'clamshell lighting' (google it if ya wanna learn more).... I concentrated the light on its face and let the spill create the fall-off (shadows) towards the back portions. IMO it created a nice depth to this image, especially with the form that you selected (perrrfect choice for this guy IMO).

The mount was situated on a wooden post which was supported on a saw-horse, in effort of getting him away from the wall and having shadows cast all over it (the wall) - The magic of photoshop removed all this apparatus from the image. After several hours of he and I getting to know one another, what you see is the 'net result'.

Glad that you like it.

Now if you don't mind; has this deer been scored? And if so, can I PLEASE have the #'s.... It's got me scratching my head - I *think* it would score more than what most would think, as they casually look it over.

Cheers!

If you look into it's eye, you can see the reflections from the light set-up....

Ya he was scored out at 121! Definately not the biggest out there, but still a respectable animal.

RIGHT ON!

Them crab-claws on his left were creating me some conflict. The buggars got more than decent mass, mains and everything else; I'd be EXTREMELY pleased with it under my belt - He's a handsome package, overall and a privilege to have worked with.
