Steven, whats the deal with Armourall?. Never heard of anyone using it on horns or antlers?.I know my sheep horns lost their luster after drying out several years.

Srupp this ram looks as good as you can get for a stone mount ,you must be peeing your pans with a bottle of beer in one hand and a back up beer in the other hand ,I have seen lots of ram mounts and this one you have is one of the tops I have ever seen.

Very nice mount you have there ,congratulations http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon6.gif.

OK are you going to be able to get some sleep now Elmer !!? You can sit back in the Cool Room and count Sheep a little easier with your "Incredible Stone Ram" !! He looks great Bro. Congrats to bringing him home safe and sound.

About the armourall thing , well I have used Scotts Liquid Gold , a secret of Gary Schaefers. It brings the Antelope horn to life but eventually fades over a few Months. Not sure if its good or Bad , but since I am so great at procrastinating it does not get done very often.

Sweet Sheep , its pretty awesome to see your dream come true and get that Brute on the wall. All its missing is a paint job of the Mountain scene in the back !!

Cheers.

Thanks guys..the pleasure was all mine Tony..enjoyed the coffee break ..really:mrgreen:.

Hi Phil...ya its easier to sleep now..not so anxious about when the ram is finished..however it was worth the wait..Harley did a great job on the ram..funny thing is I never ever DID see the ram face on...when he was first spotted that first morning he was already feeding away..

Then the morning of the 4th he was again turned broadside..for most of the 3 hours...later on when I went after him since I already knew for certain which ram I wanted..he was already feeding at a 45 degree angle away from me I shot for the opposite shoulder at 318 yards..so its kinda strange seeing the face..I should have done up the hind quarters....

Now to see what comes in from THIS year...should be some dandy sheep....

cheers

I forgot to mention that HARLEY WHITE..had this stone sheep form "specially made " I think its only the second time he has used this specific form..it was a combination of two older forms..anyways when I took the horns and cape in to Harley it was Harley who suggested that this ram would look awesome and it was his "professional oppinion " that this semi sneak pose would do this ram the most justice...I originally went in thinking a heads up right turn...Mr. White disagreed..politely and explained why this specific form would be much better...

So I went with this semi sneak , right turn....and yes I am very thankful I listened..it does show off the horns well..again using a flash doesnt do the color of the FIRST CLASS eyes Harley uses..the ram has to be seen to appreciate the colors....

thankful

hmmm Gate ..LOL you know me too well my friend....I went in knowing what I wanted..or so I thought.. Im glad Harley had the wisdom and the skills and the patience to explain what he KNEW would look great..it is kinda difficult when he had no examples ..as he had to order this form in..and didnt have a photo of it..just his explanation...and yes it was a step of faith...I wanted the stone "pose" to match my cali on the other side of the fireplace.. however this form really shows off the completely differnt characteristics of the thinhorn sheep..and especially with the shape of the rack this guy carried fairly long and coming deep and low...

Yes Mr . White hit a home run...design...AND the details..every hair was in its place..and the quality of the eyes..just put everything together perfectly....ARTISTICALLY...

Beautiful Mount Steven,

Harley did a superb job. I love the cape on that stone and also like how the horns were darkened. I betcha that one is the new favorite eh? Again beautiful mount something you can gaze up and relive the hunt of your dreams. Well deserved.

Nice mount. But it will never surpass seeing the animal on the gound close up for the first time. But that'll do!

srupp
08-07-2010, 08:45 AM
hmmm good point porcupine...no you are correct..the instant of seeing this stone on the ground up close was THE moment in time..even more than the shot..

However this is what I have as a old man to sit and remember this hunt and also the many many many that were so successful without harvesting a ram..and the couple of real %@#@#%^#% hunts that went straight sideways..
A Paramedic workmate stopped by last night to see if and when I was ever coming back to work...I showed him the ram and although he is not a hunter..he thought it was amazing.." a work of art "..ya Harley ya done good....

the more days I have looked over our ram(Scott and myself ) the ahppier I get..I have been blessed wwith some GREAT AWARD WINNING TAXIDERMIST heck I even have a Jack Gibson mount 2,,..up till then my favorite mount was a toss between Jacks job on my cali bighorn..167 7/8 and Marco Pilon on my first ever white..both ar awesome..

HOWEVER THIS NEW STONE SHEEP is now my favorite in the detail and lifelike and eah hair is in place each chin hair and the eyes are scarey real..the form is abslolutley stunning in detail

Im embarrassed to admit I have spent hours and hours and hours and well ....lots of admiring what Kevin -Scott and I achieved,,

Can NOW highly recomend Mr Harley WHITE from Westbank BC..hope some day to drop off a BIG BULL moose..a lifesize GIANT COUGAR..and a dall sheep and a rocky mtn ram..

Hi Mike... not sure???? dont see any reason not to??? But its not for any "book" its just for curiosity...

I am thinking that 15 " bases arnt the norm??? and If thats the norm then its a good norm... they keep the mass well into the 3rd quarter and they have lambtips that make the length a respectful 39"..

and if its low 160's//or mid 170's doesnt matter one bit to me...

Okay, but it's not that exciting:-?.

First I got a fire going(which wasn't easy after a heavy rain)...then I took some spices and rubbed them in real good......wove some willows through the racks and cooked them nice and slow:wink:.

Great looking ram. I was hoping to see it at Harleys when I went to get my Cali but you picked it up the day before. The Armour All stays on the horns for a long time. My dads bighorn shot in 1994 still has a nice gloss to the horns.

Congrats on a great ram.

Thanks BHB , I APPRECIATE the kind words, and the endorsement of Harleys work..I am pleased beyond words..and to have the experienced sheep hunters give the thumbs up for Harleys artful craftsmanship...just adds to the entire experience...

Myself Im still unsure about the whole armorall thing..lol while it does add that lifelike lemon color I hope in the long run it doesnt affect the horns..

Hmmm so you didnt get to see our stone sheep...HOWEVER I think I did see your Cali..
