Just wondering how many hunters here fish as well. Personally I love to hunt, but have never really gotten into fishing.

I was just at the Fraser last night fishing. Hunting always come first for me though, partly because I have a much higher success rate!

I love them both equally. And living here in the Cariboo there always seems to be an opportunity to do one or the other.

I used to bug my friend who only liked fishing and that hunting is better, but I love to do both. Bow hunt, gun hunt, fly and spin cast, and once in a while on the salt water.

Have done the saltwater thing as a guide and for myself... Its great, but now it sucks when your disabled and scraping a good Spring or Halibut. Trout fishing in a good lake, calm waters, using an 8wt fly rod and a dryfly. Can't beat it and can be a super time and do look forward to those times..Hunting is definitely my favorite pastime..

Exact same for me . . . I used to go hiking while my friends fished and I'd clean their fish at the end of the day because that part wasn't boring. Lazy hot summer days sleeping in a canoe with a case of beer is fishing time, but once the fall hits, I've better things to kill.

Fish hard in the spring, hunt hard in the spring, fish hard in the summer, hunt hard in the fall and fish hard in the winter.

You could say I hunt and fish......just a little

Cheers

I fish and hunt equally, but only because I have 12 whole months to fish, and only a few to hunt. Damn do I love huntin' trips.

Hunted hard for many years, but have found that catch & release fishing is much more rewarding, with very little loss of wildlife....

Fishing is hunting, you just don't always get to see the prey before they bite. To be a successful fisherman you have to hunt for your fish. I think they complement each other well. Hunting and connecting on big springs is awesome, Bugling for bulls is the same. They are both great ways to spend quality time.

Love them both, try to pick an area where I can bowhunt early, and then go flyfishing during the middle of the day, then go bowhunting in the evening.

I live moments from the Fraser river.

Used to fish more than hunt, but as the quality of the meat is continuously downgraded in the ocean going species by having larger counts of chemicals such as dioxins and fire ******ants, I find myself drawn to hunting as a way to provide wild protein for my young family.

(Edit 10:07 am...Funny how the auto swear edit would not let me use the word "Fire ******ants" I guess it is a bad word :) )

The other issue quite frankly is the lack of quality in the character of the Lower Mainland fishermen. I of course am speaking very generally, there are exceptions.

The arguments, the litter and pollution, the drugs... etc etc is too much to continuously expose my kids to, so I made the choice to withdraw from the fishing community and spend more time in hunting.

Better quality of people, generally speaking.

Spend considerably more time fishing than hunting simply due to the fact that fishing is available here 24-7-365, whereas hunting is allowed but a brief moment in comparison. While my first calling in very much the hunting aspect, fishing very much does pick up the slack when I can't be wandering with a rifle.

So, I start each year chasing steelhead for a month or so, commercial trolling WCVI about the same, then slip on the guide's hat for salt-water Fun out of Ukee, but come September... Most years I'll have a private hunt or two lined up for September, then wander over to Alberta to both guide and hunt for myself and accompany my Buddies until sometime in December. Get in the last of the Blacktail season here on The Rock, manage to eat my way through the HoliDaze, then back to steelhead. Damn tough schedule, but I'm survivin'...

Cheers,
Nog

Way more time spent hunting or scouting for hunting than fishing.
But a good feed of fish is a treat not to be missed.
