In a quick scan through the new regs it seems to me there are far more open seasons on deer( any buck and anterless) and on the mainland (in Area 8 for instance) long doe seasons and any buck seasons.Or am I mis- reading the regs.

You'd be reading it right. Some may think it's too much, others not enough.
I'm in the latter group! At least where I hunt, the ratio "appears" to be way off.

Well all the southern interior regions that have WT doe seasons (3, 4, 5 all have the same 21 day season. I'm sure the Peace does too for that matter. That was a common knowledge change this year because apparently the bios determined that was necessary for healthy animal populations. I can't really speak for other area's (I live in 3) as far as buck seasons go, as I am not intimately familiar with other regions deer seasons, but ours hasn't changed, other than get a little bit shorter for WT bucks.

I agree with Steeleco, especially in the OK and southern reg 3, the WT doe to buck ratios were very high, so maybe this will straighten things out. Funny for region 3, that has never even had a WT doe LEH, this will be an interesting change.

If you are referring to region 8 then no worries, there are a few whities kicking around. I don't think we will run out in the next 2 seasons of these regs.

It may seem too liberal to some, but there are many areas in BC experiencing problems with too many deer.
A quick google search brought up these stories:

Whitetail Deer, by far the most "prolific" big game species in North America,,,

a PEST ,and unmanageable species in many juristicions across North America

causing 100's of traffic deaths and hundreds of millions of $ dollars $ in insurance claims and crop damage across the continent,,,

and surely not "endangered"!:? because of an open season a month or so long!

You are still limited to 3 deer per season province wide [except Haida Gwaii] so longer seasons and more openings don't really change things much.

You beat me to it..... break it down a little further and most regions you allowed 1 Antlered Mule Deer. Take your buck and your done for that region.... No harm. Doe seasons for whitey's are proven to work so don't complain about added oppertunity "IF" you plan to use them.

That map on page 5 is woefully inaccurate in the areas of 8-05 and 3-13 where I spend most of my hunting days. To claim 1 deer per 2 to 200 sq km's is WAY under what we see.

I've a mulie doe draw and two licenses in the house. So if we shoot three girls between us this year, the bucks will get a pass. UNLESS I see "him" again!! LOL

It's some Indians clinging to the past instead of getting on with life.

You have to admit though it is working pretty good for them lately.

Mainly on WT which is an invasive non-indigenous species which will eventually force Mule Deer out. Have at 'em I say. Looking forward to some WT sausage!

I say let the whitey's eat all the crops since no one wants to give permission to hunt on there land around these parts....instead whine and cry when there crops get damaged.... They deserve the cheese !!! but my hat's off too the landowners that grant permission.

Majority of the people living on these islands are Haida and that is what they have always called the islands. Why is it a problem that they be called by their original name as opposed to some queen who never set foot in this country? Who is clinging to the past really dude?

IBTL

They should have a three deer limit for each MU....with an additional three available in select MUs [ie. areas where they want the doe numbers reduced]

AND all of these conflicting dates for the gos openings should be changed to the same dates.

AND, they should make road hunting for deer illegal.

Very true. There seems to be a direct co-relation between how beautiful an animal is and how tasty they are.

Thats why I think unicorns would be amazingly yummy.
