Here are a few trail cam pics from the past week. The real wide buck is a buck I have pictures of from this spot last year. I am hoping that his bigger brothers still roam this same spot.

Great photos. What kind of trail cam you using? How much do they typically cost?

I think a lot of these cameras must give off some kind of high frequency noise when they operate. I have pics similar to these ones where you know that the flash didn't fire and yet the deer is very aware of the camera at the time the picture is bring taken.

Look at his ears in the first picture... they are pointed right at the camera. Then in the 4th picture he's looking right at it. Those big ears sure do make fine antenna!

Great pics man!

Very interesting observation... I never have noticed this untill you mentioned it. I also looked at other trail camera pics on the site and they are mostly like that!

Must be be in the Koot's.. Whiteies and Elk... looks like you found your spot this year!!

Thanks guys. I am using a Moultrie I40 game camera. And yes the animals do hear a little dull thud/click but in the past two years it has not bothered them at all. It is a pretty good little hole with a wallow 15 yards behind my camera which a second camera is going to be placed there next week. Soon to be followed by a nice ground blind as it may look like a nice tree stand spot it is very hard to place one and get into it. Yes this is the east kootenays... around Cranbrook too... Sorry no GPS coords.... lol

Hey Elkaholic, never thought much about using trailcams, but man those pics get a guy worked up. Sure a good way to do some scouting and with the time on there you can start to pattern them as well. Not sure if you know or not, but how many days can you leave it there taking pictures on a set of batteries and how many pictures before it runs out of juice?

Well I am pretty sure I could leave it for 3 months and the batteries would not run out. But the memory card may run out of room. It can only take 3800 pictures before I need to change the card. Last year I ran this 2 months here, 2 months in cold sask weather and the batteries still have 15% according to the display. So I thought the life was pretty fair.

Nice pic's. Looks like you have some good deer to choose from in your spot.
What cam are you using and how much does it cost?

I am using the Moultrie I40 as I stated in a previous post. When I bought this the Loonie was doing really well and I got a screamer of a deal for $160. I think they are a little over $200 now.

Nice pictures Elk,,, trailcams would have been great when I was growing up in the Westbank area ... for easy access... but I'm stuck in cityville and it makes it hard to leave a cam in the backcountry for months on end and find the time to travel back and forth to my little corner spots... might have to try this out and just fine a way to get away regularly.
