That is a hell of a blacktail for a new hunter or a seasoned veteran.
Good on him.
Possibly make the B.C. book?

very nice buck should go on the wall for sure but the skagit is out of the zone for BT deer . but a awesome muley anyways. was it with a gun or bow? what did it score?

P&Y and B&C books and the B.C book fallow this to . (i`m pretty sure) i don`t want this to run in this thread to go away from this awesome deer. just because a hunting tag says muley/blacktail ... well thats all from me but it`s a buck that should be on the wall , i would not pass that up BT/muley. sorry for starting something , nice buck again.

Few and far between in the Skagit valley, but there are some good ones. My first hunting trip ever was in the Skagit valley and we managed to pull two deer out of areas no longer accesible due to overgrowth # 1 was taken way up the Cantelon fsr and #2 was taken way up on top of the road that goes up from the bridge at mile 17 or so off the silver lake fsr.The Blacktail we got was a 3x3 that was comparable to many mulies I've seen over the years

Got it at the eaton lake area, with a little luck and lots of hiking you can find big and little ones. In regards to muley or bt.....I would say its leaning more towards bt as I have taken a few or more mulies and this looked nothing like any muley I have shot. Right away something looked different. Face and tail etc...Some might put lines on where animal boundaries end, but I have seen elk and moose in there as well....

Wow, good to see there are some decent bucks in the Skagit Valley, I always wander through there every fall out of habit and was about to give up looking there  Even if it is pretty heavily hunted its still nice country to hike through.

Nice buck for sure! LR

You've seen elk and moose in the Skagit valley? I do know there are grizzlies that reside in the area, but elk and moose....really?

Hey Phil ,Never put it on the wall...too bad! It was totally rutted out but tasted amazing..Kinda contradicting to the norm of horrible tasting rutting bucks. And ya saw i elk and 1 moose in the valley in the past 7 years!! They must have been lost, maybe it was the mission highway elk.

I must have been to the Skagit 10 or 12 times in the past 20 years during hunting season and all I ever saw was camo clad men. And I was way off the road too.

I was way up Maselpanik one time and I could smell a buck in rut as if I was on top of him, but do you think I could see him?

Nope.

Found a totally fresh deer liver in the middle of the road there one time too.

That was way back when they had a muzzle loader season there Sept. 1 and I was going in berry picking with my family.

damn rights! good on you guys, that is a difficult place to hunt, and yet, you managed to take a great buck out of there, from what i've seen around there, thats as good as it gets. very dark 4X4 antlers with short tines, such a perfect blacktail!

Thanks for all the attaboys!!! I was jealous 4 about 1 second, but that was overcome with a different feeling of seeing someone take there first deer. I remember that and it is an awesome feeling. My buddy jesse was so pumped i think i saw his heart beating out of his chest. He is addicted now, obviously, like everyone else.
