was out at anderson FSR and Scuzzy FSR last weekend. Didn't get very far on Scuzzy, snow and nasty washouts. Anderson you could go further, but some snowy patches. Some older sign and it's greening up lower down. Ran into a Father and Son who saw a Sow and cubs but's thats as close as I got.

Going to go for a drive tomorrow and look around Harrison / Chelais.

ok i'm back and never saw a bear or any sign of bear. The road is good theres a little mud and some puddles but even cars were driving on it.the weather on the other was not so good it snowed a little(never stuck to the ground),had some slushy and freezing rain, and some rain.I took my oldest boy with me and for the first time he actually got to see something well we were hunting, we saw 2 real healthy looking does in one of the clearings.Everything is green the small trees all have lots of green leaves, the grass is starting to sprout up all over and the skunk cabbage is growing.Hope you guys had better luck than i did.

Work was nice enough to get my hint. They gave me most of next week off. Wed to Sun actually. I will be going down to stay at dads house in Chwk for the week. I will be going out around there during the week and then Sat heading up Boston Bar way. Family freinds have a cabin up there. Hopefully get my first bear!!!!

LOC, did you get out today? How did you make out, did you find a big one.?

Went for a short drive up west harrison this AM. Place was a zoo, lots of trucks and the odd motor home! Found a nice little place off the main road that showed potential (lots of nice green slopes, and little sign of human activity) though. Came back early (13:00ish) since the muffler fell (after being encouged to go through "that big puddle" by the wife) off the truck and the wife found it overly noisy (not to mention the wet and miserable weather).

no bear or bear sign either :(

I did see a blue dodge though, full of 6 guys and blew past me while I was pulled over tying off what was left of the muffler - figured it wasn't you BSA :)

bsa30-06.

I was up a fair ways east side. We were cookin' hamburgers in a blue chevy '98 in case you saw me.

Bear Creek area. As soon as we turned off the main road by the Deer/Hicks lake, we saw about 10 off the left side in a clear-cut. We sat there for about 15 min. as we stared at each other.

A little south of Bear Creek on the right I walked right up to a doe with a little 1. Must have been my Carhart bib overalls taht blended in. Ha Ha.

I do think in a few eeks they'll be out (bears).

BCLongshot, i must have drove by you guys i drove down as far as the second little logging camp area.I have driven a little further on this road , but could you tell if this road ends or where it goes?Looking at my map it looks that if you have the right equipment you could come out fairly close to boston bar/north bend area.

I believe it was some time ago when you could circle route from Harrison HS to Boston bar and back. I heard a few years back that there had been a large slide and a bridge had been taken out making it no longer passable??

04-16-2006, 09:53 PM
you could be right steeleco i got that info from the B.C road and Recreational Atlas 5th edition which i just noticed has a date of august 2001. Guess i better get a new map book!!

Barracuda

you could do it last year and it is still listed as open. basicly you just have to wait til the snow clears go up kookpi to go through to the Nahatlatch

Yep Barracuda is correct .... I've taken the route many times .. but depending on snow levels ... it could possibly not be passable till June. All depends on how well the snow drifts melt. Plus it's good to know if they had any slides on the Kookipi Cr. end of the loop.

There are other nice alterantive areas to check out that way.

how rough is this route can you get thru in a 4 wheel drive pick-up or do you need a shorter wheel based vehicle?

Barracuda
04-17-2006, 03:33 PM
as long as the road is in, a 4x4 PU will have no problems
Rolling Rock we were up there before the long weekend? I wont go into the woods on weekends most of the time particularly long weekends

R you goin' back there??

All this chat is making me so damn excited maybe I'll quit my job, leave my beautiful wife and kids and just hunt all the time.

I'm going to try to go this Saturday and go all the way to Nahatlach. I was told you could just snow might hold you up.

on the main road even cars wont have any problem except that it's a little bumpy. but if you try to get into some of the side trails a 4x4 with some ground clearance is better.

we went there on Thursday evening and backed out yesterday. didnt spend a lot time on the road and in the bush since one of our group members wasn't feeling well. but we went to check a few spots and saw a lot of deer signs. bears, no. three atv guys told us that they saw three bears but they weren't quick enough to draw the guns.

I hate to go out on long weekend. but what other options do I have?

I don't know if i'll get back there this weekend, i'm shooting in the burnaby flatfield 3D with cowboy-up69 on sunday and the wife works on saturday so i would have to find a sitter for the kids.I would really like to try and get all the way thru that road but i don't want to go in alone in case theres a problem. If you want to get together sometime and try going all the way thru that road i'd be willing.I will be back in that area often. What kind of truck do you drive?

I'll keep in touch. There's 3 of us that have trucks, 2x4, 4x4's. We like taking the 98 Chev because it has leather int. I know but it's so nice on the bum.

I will keep in touch or you can send me an e-mail. We could follow you or whatever.

I still can't beleive all the deer we saw on Friday...

Even though we're talking about bears.

You guys won't get thru the loop via Big Silver via Kookipi to Nahatlatch until well into May. And with the recent snow fall .. that's a for sure. The spot they state the washouts at 3km, is located on the other side, (but then I've read that before and the road has been fine) coming in from the Nahatlatch side.

I attempted it by bike on the may long weekend one year and encounterd heavy wet snow that sunk the bike . I dont remember it being this bad a winter that year either but other years it has been ok . I think it will be a bust for a good portion of this spring

Good luck BCLongshot , i'll be heading to lytton that weekend to see if i can't rustle me up a big bear, i've had my eye on a big cinnamon for a few years but she always has 3 cubs in tow.Actually we have run into each other so many times i think we've become friends or atleast we have an understanding she takes her cubs and leaves me alone and i wont shoot her.BCLongshot maybe we can hook up between now and then and see if we cant find a bear around harrison.
