Well my Dad and I finally managed to find some time to mount my 2006 Stone ram. I am very fortunate to have a father who is a taxidermist. Thanks Dad! I think we did a great job and it looks fantastic in my hunting room.

This is the form I used from Mckenzie.

The final touches with the horns to the form are not done here, in case a few of you are wondering.

My Dad and I:

I took these pictures outside on the side of my shed because the light was better.

Great looking mount that you and your dad created. Nice close ups of the horns that should be used for yet another "age this ram" debate. I for one, can't say for sure how old that ram is. Anyone else care to guess??

For me it just goes to show how difficult coming up with the proper age in the field can be.

I apologize if this appears to be a hijack, but thought there would be value in seeing people's guesses prior to your posting the CI age.

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for all the kind words. I don't mind people trying to guess the age - very difficult to do on dark horned rams though....

His bases are 14"

Brambles, yes you will see it on Saturday.

He's at least 9. Very hard to count on those dark horns. Could have two years close together at his bases. I'm gonna go with 10 years. Hes a beauty ram for sure. Great job on the mount.

I think my partner may have posted the story some time ago, but I will tell it again anyway.

My partner and I got dropped off on August 31st. After a grueling hike we made our first camp at the head of a valley and wow...were the bugs ever terrible:eek:. We spotted a few ewes and lambs that night but no rams.

Up and early for opening day and made our way to the top and luckily we packed water because none was to be found on top. We spotted a few smaller rams but nothing legal.

Day 2 found us hiking through blinding rain and bitterly cold temperatures. We spotted a few rams but again nothing legal. We made our way back to camp through some of the worst wind I have ever experienced. I actually thought our tent was going to be plastered on the other side of the valley.

As we approached our camp we spotted my ram. He was feeding in the bottom of a basin...only 700 yards away. We quickly closed the distance because we only had 30min of light left. I ranged him at 468 yards on a very steep angle. After much debate we determined he was legal, but unfortunately couldn't get any closer and now I had to decide if I wanted to take the shot with 10minutes of light left. I opted to pass on the shot hoping he was going to be there in the morning. We didn't have a TBR range finder and I wasn't comfortable shooting with such a short amount of time left.

So we put the ram to bed and made our way back to camp. I was some excited to say the least and couldn't wait for the morning. After a solid 4 hours of sleep because of the hurricane winds we awoke and quickly made our way over to the basin. Well...we were very disappointed to see the ram was gone. I was starting to really second guess my decision not to shoot when my partner spotted him.

We ranged the ram at 370 yards on a very steep angle. I set up my Dad's 270 Winchester featherweight on a rock and settled in for the shot. I aimed for the middle behind his shoulder and missed...shot high over his back. I quickly reloaded and aimed for the bottom of his brisket...and nailed him. He stumbled for a few yards and bed down. A few yippees and high fives were had.

I am very happy with this ram, as he is my first ram. I can't thank my partner enough...he is an excellent hunter and friend. I would also like to thank my Dad for introducing me to, and teaching me, how to hunt.
