Hey all,,,I'm in the process of doing a gobbler grand slam.

What are the legalities of a non resident hunting birds in BC?

Does BC allow crossbows to be used for gobbler hunts?

thanks
Peter

Welcome to HBC Peter,

Grand Slam eh ?
Well we do have what your looking for.

We have both Mirriams & Rios in the interior of BC and Easterns on the coast. Not bad for a prov. that just started a open season for them 4 years ago.

Here is a copy of our hunt regulations to look at. They are good for 2 years.
I believe you must have a guide while hunting in BC, but you should check. The person who is up on that and turkeys is Othmar. Hes on this site. Goes by "Huntwriter". Here's the link to his WWW.

We even have some other critters. Heres a small big horn.

Our moose in southern BC are not as big as Ont. moose but we have then just outside our back door.

Just one more thing...here on HBC we have a "rule" for newbies. You must post a "joke" for your first thread. Get on it.

Wow, someone wants to come form turkey land (Ontario) to BC for turkeys!:-D

I don't know if turkeys are considered small game (no guide required) or if you ned a BC hunter to accompany you or?

There is no "joke requirement" for new members.

From the hunting regs:

Small Game

4It is not necessary for a non-resident of
British Columbia to be accompanied by a
licensed guide when hunting for small game
(includes game birds)

So, no you dont need to hire a guide.

Hi Peter what a pleasant surprise to see you here. Othmar here. So you get finally around to finish your grand slam. Still working on mine, only two birds to go.:-D

I would be honored to take you to some good turkey hot spots here in BC but it will not be this fall, to much going on. In the spring is busy too - seminars and such - but better. Give me a call or email and we can take it from there.

B.T.W. How did the OWC convention in Whitehorse go? Shame I had no time to attend this year but I will definitely come next year.

Just seen that. Thanks for the kind words. Peter is also an outdoor writer, we've known each other for several years. In fact he's the man that got me into Outdoor Writers of Canada.

I would be very interested to learn where you have seen Rio Grande turkeys here in BC, or heard about that we have any here. You can PM the answer. We do have Eastern Wild Turkeys in BC but it's not a huntable population yet. But we're working on it.

B.T.W. Although I've seen the pictures of your and your fathers turkey it's nice to see them again. Well done.
