I am looking to go moose hunting this year for the first time. What would be the best spot to go moose hunting in the province. Best chances of getting one.

Go way up North ... Pink Mountain area, Ft. St. John, Ft. Nelson, hunt general seasons, take quads and lots of good help that can pack, get off the main beat.

Good luck .

Knowing a good spot is important but so is meat care. How to handle a small mountain of hot meat in the early season and what to do, to care for the meat is very important daywalker, before shooting a moose in warmer weather, even in late season for that matter. Gutting, quartering, skinning and cooling and storage. A moose's dead weight is incredible when you see the first one laying there.
Summary: learn all there is to know about after the killing shot, be prepared and you will be confident.
JP Moregun .. good luck finding a spot for moose .. Learn all you can about meat care b4 you go.

I think FSJ has alot of private land. Public access is hard to find.
Heed what Curly top says, Moose are 1000lbs of DEAD weight. Think about how you are going to deal with this. lot of work when you shoot!
If you have never shot anything that big and want some tipps give me a PM and i might have some advice for you.

GO NORTH SON, YOU WILL FIND YOU MOOSE!

click on the persons avtar (picture) and a pop up will show and prompt you to "send pm" private message. This is better for details so they dont take up too much room or things you dont want all to see.

you actually go out in the woods without a leh tag, holy old school man time to get with it man, jump in your truck for three days and put on seven hundred kilometers without seeing a track .
go home and report to buddies that there is no animals in the woods.

Oct 1 is a good time for calling , but some seasons you have to look at a lot of bulls to find a legal one. August 15 is any bull lots of young ones shot then. In my opinion if you take proper care of the meat the august bulls taste way better than the later ones.

yeah just thinking less pressure in Oct as well. Is there a big difference in meet. I was looking at the regs and you do have a fair choice of animals to take point wise for the moose. You do much hunting there.

I would be happy with any moose for the first one. What is the average size up there. Did you call him in.
