I bought a new back-up bow for an up-coming trip. And of course neither of the presses that I use now will work on the PSE Bow Madness because of the past-parallel limb design.

So time to bite the broadhead and get to work on a press that will do all of them. I hate spending money on things that I can build for a fraction of the cost and I can often take advantage of cheap labour [mine] and incooperate improvements.

So here is the raw press. I'll use it a bit and make any adjustments/additions before I take it apart and paint it.
Because I'm a saver/scrounger, I have less than $65 into it so far. It's based on the EE-Z press which retails for about $500.

Not trying to be rude or disrespectfull at all, but doesn't a rachet strap do the same job?

I machined a few bushings to act as guides.

Right now, I have the fingers wrapped with hockey tape. Thats temporary. I'll machine inserts for different applications.

I may mount my home-made bow vise on the press later to.

I will consider different mounting options for a while before I committ. It may go on a stand or just clamp to a bench when I need it. A pivot is also an option, buy I'm not sure how usefull.

I also need a heavy hand wheel to turn the scew with, about 6" - 8" in diameter, if anybody has one.

good looking press ambush . Once you start using a linear press you will throw all the others away .

look for an old sewing machine . the wheel on that should be big enough .

I want something heavy, so when I give it a spin, it will go for awhile.
I may have to liberate one from a lathe at work.

The least I can do for a guy that packs half my stuff up the mountains. And again in six weeks!!

No problem buddy. The packs are going to be much heavier on the way down too. Hopefully we get old dying decrepid billies with wasting away bodies and huge horns. I think Thin Air has a big pack to help me out this year too. Cant wait!

well-i know nothing about compounds, so i'll ask-whats the bow press for? if you need to change the string or somethin'?

Changing strings, adding string accessories, peeps, leeches, anything you have to split the string for. Rotating strings to train peep sights. Work on cams and cam axles and bearings.
Makes life much easier if you don't have to head to a shop every time something needs doing. I like to do everything myself, so that means having the tools.
Many of the newer bows have very specific requirements for pressing or the warranty is void.

I work'em pretty hard, 'cause I'm lazy, so they're pretty worn out by the end.

That press that you built is the nearest thing to the Last Chance brand that I have seen. It'll press any bow on the market - today, or yesterday. Great one. A "must-have".
