I lost access to a large private block I have hunted for 30 plus years, so needed a change of hunting plan. I will now travel to new country and hunt other deer species which will require camping as huts are not plentyful.
My wife found a secound hand, imported, french made, fold down caravan on Trademe.
Just the thing for mobility and has double glassing, sink, fridge, under floor gas heater, only weighs 600kgs and is up in less than a minute.
I raised the torsion bar suspension by changing angle of bar to give 4" extra clearance for rough tracks and am making skirts along each side out of paper machine 'wet felt' to prevent too many scatches while bashing bush tracks.
What a palace.

Blimey! I've never seen one with hard sides like that before. Should be good for all weather conditions.

They are cool little rigs, I've seen similar in the UK. Wonder why they didn't market them here??

Must have something to do with the steering wheel being on the wrong side of the tow vehicle LOL

Google Esterel folding caravans. 18ft one for sale in England for 1900 pound. A guy in NZ imports them. Mine is a like new 1993 model 3.3m X 1.9m inside. Cost $9000NZ inc.Gst ($6450CAN)

I used to own one similar to that. The only real difference is that when set up mine was like a teepee. The two halves of the roof just layed down on top of each other and when you lifted them up the side walls just flipped out and locked into place. It was a real sweet rig. Had a stove, heater, porta potti, and two tables that both folded down into double beds. I sure wish I still had it. I have no idea who made them and I don't even have any pics that I can share.

Ahhhh here it is... Well not the same one mine was built like in the late 70's early 80's but pretty much the same thing.

Ya it seems there are a couple makers of them. For some reason the Apache rings a bell tho. It was almost 15 years ago that I owned it tho so hard to say.

the apache one we saw had the popout side and looked just like a regular tent trailer except that it was hard sided .

it was really neat

What's left to hunt? You shot a good stag and an awesome boar (how was the meat by the way?). Can you shoot more elsewhere in your hunting season?

NZ has 7 species of deer,Red, Fallow, Wapiti (Elk), Whitetail, Sika and just starting to rut, Samba and Rusa. All these are free range and with no season. Then there are Tahr, Chamoir, Pig, Wallaby, Possum and Rabbit.
So much game, so little time.

Very cool, looks like a great base camp. For the rutted roads you mention, have you thought about up-sizing the tires?
