I bought a spot today at Lundon Drugs it is defective http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon9.gif.

After I played around with it for two hours I found out that it will not send a SOS when I hold down the SOS button.

I took off the SOS cover button that covered the button then pressed my finger onto it and then it worked ..

Wonder if anyone that has perchesed one of these has had this problum ??? ,it goes back tomorrow.

Its a good thing that I played around with it before I moved to Cranbrook because the clouses place for return is Alberta ..

LD is usually really good with returns. Doesn't seem to matter where you return it as long as you are within the 15 day time limit and have your receipt.

hmmmhunter 1947 I have not gotten my new spot to try and play around with..seems one of the new saftey items was a plastic guard to prevent accidental activations when folks travelled with it on...

is this the plastic you referred to??

Srupp you are right I take back what I said about the spot ,it will not go back because it is do to operator not the item.

I thought about what I might be doing wrong ???? the directions did not tell you to remove the safty gard with the SOS in wrighting http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon11.gif I flipped up the SOS gard or the demande d'aid/spot assist protector gard and all worked good :-D.

Here are some pictures of what I did before and after .

Glad to have helped..
As a PARAMEDIC I know what the dangers are out there..this SPOT has answered most of em..

So far 100 % of the issues have been" operator confusion"

The button protectors were added when folks travelled with the unit ON and the buttons wre accidently hit and 911 was initiated un needed..

Any qquestions out there guys/gals call me or e-mail we can get it figured out I AM here to help

cheers

does the spot work world wide?
As long as you are a Canadian or US resident than YES it does. I am sure there is limitations as to where they would go though... like maybe not Iraq or Afghanistan.. I think there is a stipulation in their fine print about this if I remember right...

I am just wondering what happened when you did press it? Did someone come to the rescue? I was thinking it was for emergencies only, but with your luck, you should have one in your pocket at all times. Untill you're over the 13k post mark.

Note to self: When life and death is on the line, read the instructions.

Now edit the title of this thread so the whole of BC doesnt start a rumor saying these things dont work....:-?

hunter 1947..no problem. my pleasure .

Yes they work anywhere in the world, one guy bought one and activated it and rented a seak kyack and got into a rip current off the coasts of Australia..and was WAY THE HELL out to sea..remembered the unit pushed the buttons...I imigine when the 911 call center saw where he was they figured it out ASAP..like right now..they sent a Sea king long range helicopter to the rescue..all worked out well another save for SPOT.

David...good point however most guys that have actually used em know they work so arnt too put off with the occasional negative comments..you cant please everyone all the time...

I"highly recomend" that owners /users of these units write down each and every time they use the unit..actually keep nots of WHERE, WHEN , WHAT time date.location and what was pushed and why.even if it is just for checking in..this will allow you to gain confidence with these units...

TIP: IF YOU ARE A SHEEP HUNTER OR HAVE A SPECIAL HONEY HOLE FOR GRIZZLY OR BIG BUCKS OR WHATEVER BE EXTREMELLY CAREFUL OF WHO YOU CHOOSE TO SHARE THIS INFORMATION WITH.IF YOU CHECK IN DAILY IT WILL DISPLAY YOUR EXACT LOCATION, TIME AND MESSAGE..WHAT YOU WANT...HOWEVER IT SHOWS THESE FOLKS YOUR EXACT LOCATION YOU ARE HUNTING AND SHOT YOUR PRIZED SHEEP, DEER..ETC THERE IS NO FUDGE ROOM, IT IS EXACT...A POINT TO KEEP IN MIND.

So carefully select who you want to get this message, when I shot my stone sheep..I had eliminated anyone that was a hunter from my list..so no one could find out from my messages...as I did not have a GPS.

I was wondering if there is a time sensitive contract for the subscription service for spot or if you are allowed to back out at any time?
