i took my son's to the peace region last sept. we got this elk about a mile from the half way, on the 8th day. the boys were sleeping under the tree when i finally got the answer. the elk and i bugled back and forth for about an hour, he would not come out of the thick shit. when my lil guy woke up, he heard the elk bugle and sat straight up with a freaked out look. i put my fingers to my lip to stay quiet. i woke my other son and whispered listen. i bugled and the elk answered, my older boy got a sinister smile.
i stumbled on one of my calls and didn't hear from him for over an half hour, so i said lets head to camp. about 2 mins into the walk i turned around to try the bugle one more time and he answered. we went back, got a few more answers, then headed into the maze of trails. i would grab a branch and my oldest would flag for the way back. when we got close, i stopped bugling and used the hoochie mamma. i sqeaked once and he came closer, i could hear him commin our way in a hurry, while he was makin noise i hit the hoochie right in his direction and he came flyin in stopped at about 60yds and looked right at us..my oldest and i had our guns ready to shoot when he came in. i waited and waited for his gun to go off, it felt like forever and didn't hear from lil dave's gun, so i woke the forest with MR Wheatherby's alarm. it took about an hour to find the elk but we did it..lil dave said he didnt know why he didn't shoot, he just froze. i would have loved it if he did the shooting, but a great memory, our 1st elk just the 3 of us..http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/diggerdogger/DSC059521_450_600.jpg trying to get more pics in.

Exactly what I was thinking. If that can't get someone hooked then I'm not sure what can. Awesome bull and a great story to go along with it. Congrats!
