well guys to make a long story short i got a monster blackie. the old timer is an absolute monster. hes a real old boy. his top teeth were wore right down to gums. i have some pics to post, but dont know how to do it. if theres someone that can post them for me that would be awsome. the bear squares 7'11 and 1/2. and his head is absolutely gigantic.being the size of the head and i want to get it scored, (it has the potential to be high in the B&C), would it be bad to get the skull boiled? i dont want to lose any size on it.

one shot with the 338, 210 grain tsx dropped him in his trax.

i will post more of a story later.

Talk to srupp if you like, he is shipping down a skull for the same thing next week, we had a talk on the phone yesterday so he knows the drill and he knows his bears

Nice Bear. My buddy and I got a dandy bear in the Windermere area some years ago. 8' 1" , 475lbs. The taxidermist used a grizzly head mount. Scored 21 and a bit. When I went back to get the skull the taxidermist dude was gone and never to be found again. At least I got my hide c/w head mount before he vanished.

Your bear just BLOWS mine out of the water..lol snivel snivel..

I think the 1/2 mount Steven is doing ..would REALLY highlite the beast you shot..drop by and get the info regarding shipping the skull for beetle cleaning..

And IF the numbers hold up(beetles for this big boy are the ONLY WAY TO GO WHEN YOUR TALKING THE NEW WORLD RECORD BLACK BEAR !!!!)

and I have no reason to believe they wont..you will have THE BIGGEST BLACK BEAR SHOT IN THE WORLD...EVER...a great reason to treat that skull gently, carefully and use those beetles..every 1/16 of an inch is 30 names down..

If it was that big and it was mine it would not leave my site until officially measured. I would pay the guy 100 bucks to ship me a handful of beetles and I would do it myself.

Wow! THe way you're holding the head up makes the bears head look tiny! Considering it is in contention for the new world record, the body of the bear is making it look tiny! That is so awsome that you got a bear of this caliber. I would find a way to ingrave your name into the skull so that you know its yours if you're shipping it off somewhere. Lost in the mail would make me cry. Did you find out what you need to do to have it all official like? I heard of a guy who tried to enter a grizzly as a black bear and got in some hot water. It would just be terrible to get caught on some technicality. Any changes in the taxidermy plan now that it is up there in the book? Full mount for sure if it is what you say it is. IMHO. Cheers and good luck!

im going to be looking into a half mount i think. or just rug it. well as far as official like, i have to get the skull cleaned, dry 60 days and have it scored. and well this bear is not a grizzly. so im not worried bout that.
as far as being "caught" on a technicality im not to sure what you mean? bear was harvested on public land, fair chase, etc, etc.

tiny head?ummm......lol. theres nothing tiny about this bear.

What a PIG! lol Great job! I saw a blackie just as big last year in the Prince George area. He was so big that I thought he was a grizzly. Didn't try shooting because I was Grizzly hunting. I have been losing sleep thinking about him ever since! Awsome bear! I'm jealous. lol:-D

I saw one three fours years back around PG as well, thought the same as you. Absolutely huge, but the moment didn't lend it's self to a shot. As far as I know he's still around. 7-07 by chance

I guess there was an initial measuring mistake by about 4 inches. A friend shot a huge bear last year with a real large melon. Once the meat was of missed 19" by a hair. My largest was 20 10/16 , the next day shot a bigger bear and it was less then 19. You never know until you flesh them. I hope I am wrong but something is deffinately up.

It would be nice to hear the official score on this guy if only to satisfy morbid curiousity. If I had to guess I'd say he's right in the 20.5" range.

I still think it's a whale of a bear and he should be damn proud of it.

Anybody who would rub his nose in what might have been an honest mistake needs to get a life.

My first bear was shot when I was a newbie. It had a 22 inch skull when the meat was off. I left it tied up in a tree for half a year then had to boil it for 6 hrs just to get the jerky off it. The teeth fell out and it cracked all over. It ended up going 20 1/2 I didnt keep the cape or measure it. It would be different today.

I personally could care less about skull size. That bear was a big bear who cares if it has a small skull. Still a great bear IMO....

If a guy comes on here talking about a record book bear before he even cleans the skull and it turns out to be an average skull man up. share the story so others can learn from your mistake..... No one really cares its not as big as advertised, its still one hell of a bear!

he said some pretty intense stuff in this thread. Its a beauty thread.

If what SRUPP is saying is true......they will have to make up a new expression for eating crow.....Maybe "eating bear skull"??

BlacktailStalker

Odd he hasnt posted, big deal, it wasnt as big as he thought.
Still better than 80% of the bears I've seen this year.
It is kind of comical to make a fuss out of something in a bragging sort of way and then have to eat humble pie after though
If hes that worried about it, hes hunting for the wrong reasons.

Bears and cat skulls are anybodys guess until they're in your hand.

I'd like to know what the bear ended up scoring. My biggun from may shrunk from 19.75 to 18.75 and that was without boiling. So it does shrink considerably. Yours Should still be Boone and crockett though.

In my opinion the hunter is a booner. B&C minimum for black bear is 21" by the way not 19".

fourbyfour
01-23-2011, 11:14 AM
look up before post 20" gets you in 21" gets you All time award B.C

rattling_junkie
01-23-2011, 02:25 PM
I understand that. Would you call a 160" whitetail a Booner? Most people don't and go by the 170" score. The All-Time is usually referred when discussing Boone and Crockett.

Taken from the Boone and Crockett website:

Below is a chart that lists the minimum entry scores for all the North American big game animals recognized by the Boone and Crockett Club. Trophies that meet the Awards minimum but not the All-Time minimum will be listed in the Awards book. Trophies that meet the All-Time minimum will be listed in both the Awards book, as well as "Records of North American Big Game."

Rumour has it the bear was under 19" this was from a very good source. Who knows how Jesse measured i,t i believe it was before it was skinned as even with the meat in you wll not miss 4 inches. I think we should just let this one go as it is obvious he made a large mistake. Who cares we all make mistakes, at least he wasn't asking for info that is clearly stated in the regulations. Now that makes me crazy.
