I have been out every wekend this year for bear in Grand Forks 8-15 area.
I have counted 41 for sure different bears this year around the area....
The color phases where I hunt are allover due to the amazing genetics....I have been filming and taking a lot of pictures this year of the bears I have been watching and will show some pics later on.
6:15 am Monday morning (yesterday) May 24th 2010 I spotted this nice color phase and decided I would take him knowing he was an alright bear. At 35 yards I made no mistake dropping him and and watching him roll down a hill to about 20 yards from me. I gave him 20 good minutes (even know I could see him and he was already dead) just to remain calm and keep myself thinking straight.....As I walked up to him I realized he was an alright bear like I figured prior to shooting him. Pulling him down the hill to get a better look at him I noticed he was longer then I thought he was....!?!?!?
I skinned him out and was quite happy with him.:-D
Laying him out flat on the ground I measured from tip of claw to tip of claw(pulling on one paw until the other just started to move then measured...) and I got a measurement of 6' 4"!
Measuring from tip of nose to tail (again pulling tail until head started to move then measuring) I got 6 feet...
Today I got around to scoring his skull and green scored it at 17 3/4 "
All in all I was very happy with My 6 foot color phase..

WONDERFUL BEAR! WELL DONE...and the #s add up as bears usually are wider than longer in the squaring #'s...the color is wonderful and the size great.

I think you did an awesome job on the detatching the hide from the meat..the finished cut looks perfect very, very well done...

Sure is a pile of non black ,black bears where you hunt keep that honey hole secret..

This will make a wonderful trophy weather rug or 1/2 mount or???

thanks for sharing

Hey thanks man.
It was my first time skinning a bear , Although I have skinned coyotes.....
But yea for the #'s I dislike it when people stretch the crap out of it then give a stupid number on length .....

The one I shot was not on private property.........but some of the ones on the videos were on private property so I filmed them and carried on......
Although I have asked a farmer this year if he would allow me to shoot a bear above his place....he was an awesomeguy and told me yes and that he had a trail leading right up to the bear.So I went after it and was not able to get it:icon_frowBut oh well I got the one I was looking for:-D
