Up at 03:30, off highway by 04:00. 05:30 saw and attempted to close with a small blackie, wind direction and 2 noisy, alarming birds in a puddle ended that at 150 yards. 06:30 came upon another one (turned out to be 5' 7" boar) that ran around the corner and over a hump out of sight. The wind was in my face this time with some dry branches underfoot in an several year old clearcut. I glimpsed him several times and he looked my way once at about 40 yards while I froze. I got the angle around the hump between us at about 25-30 yards but he stayed butt to me, which wasn't good enough for me with only 12ga 000 buck capability (Mossberg 835 with overbore 28" barrel, mod choke, blown budget, and frowning wife). Patience paid off, he turned broadside and took the hit, going straight down for a few seconds, then up and took another 3 pellets from the 2nd shot in the neck, which made him somersault before making another 10 yards to expire. Loaded him in the truck and home by 07:30 for breakfast, coffee, and a questioning wife because of an early afternoon social engagement and next day on the plane to work. I used a lockback, folding, Canadian tire razor knife (one blade change) to skin, gut, and debone. All the good stuff double bagged and in the freezer for future grinding, and everything else bagged for disposal by 12:30.
