i use a bushnell 6500 2.5-30 for my 7mag for hunting. i like to keep it at 10x so the mill dot works out without doing extra math.
and a tasco 6-24 target on my 243 for punchin paper. i like to keep it around 12, so the math works again.

Ziess 2.5x10x44 z-800. The most expensive scope I have ever owned and also the best. Shines in low light conditions.

I have a zeiss, a weaver, a couple old cheapo bushnells. The Zeiss is definitely the most expensive, sexy and clearest. That being said I don't own a scope that has nope seen animals drop. Get what you can afford but a good set of bino's is more important in my opinion.

Vortex Viper... excellent bang for the buck. Leupold VX, would go with the Vortex if needed to replace it.

Vortex Vipers, I'm sold on the Vortex products, and I also switched to their binos this year. I am very pleased with both the clarity and light gathering.

I also went with a Vortex Viper, 4-12-40 BDC, on my new x-bolt 270 WSM. Very bright, good warranty and the price was great. Purchased through Grouseriver.

I have a couple of bushnell ellites, one 3200 and one 4200. Good scopes that i have never had a problem with. I had a chance to try out a vortex recently and would have to give it a small edge over the 3200, and it is a bit cheaper.

I also have a pair leupold scopes, one vx3 and a mark 4. I really like the leupold optics, and would recommend them.

I am looking at a new scope and it will either be a swarovski if i can afford it, or a zeiss conquest. After checking out the others in the same price range they seem to be the best glass for the money, imo.

I have leica binos and leupold binos, and the leupys are great glass but not even in the same ball park as the leicas.

I've used Bushnell 3200 & 4200, and Leupold VX-I, II, and IIIs on hunting rifles I've had over the years.

The 3200 was okay, 4200 was a very good scope.

I recently picked up a new Redfield Revolution 2-7x33 to stick on my 300 WSM, and it is a great scope, especially for the price. Side by side with my VX-I, it is brighter and sharper, and makes the 3200 Bushnell look like a waste of money. Also, when adjusting it at the range, when you move it 5 or 8 clicks or whatever, your next shot goes exactly there. Not 3 shots later like many inexpensive scopes. Warranty is top notch (same as Leupold).

Very good scope for someone looking to spend under $300.

equal or more for the optics is a pretty common general rule of thumb, if your going to try to skimp, save on the rifle, most manufactures make a usable product in the rifle world, the same can not be said in the optic world.

Leupold and Burris all the way here. Will never go back to a Bushnell or other cheaper scope again.
If you have a problem with it the service turnaround time is excellent, but you will find you won't have too many service problems.

Thanks everyone for there imput. I got myself a new rifle and scope. I went with the browning medalion 7mm rem mad seeing how I'm a lefty. And scope is....3.5-10x50mm Leupold vx 3 with boone and crockett rectles. I took it out yesterday and very happy with that scope. I have tried swaroski and I still beleive there the best but my leuapold is almost as good. It was very clear, and brings in great light. The only things I have to learn is how to use the boone and crockett

I use a variety of scopes. However the best ones out there are Leupold. Hands down. I even own a swarovski and I would still vouch for the Leupold. However this new redfield I'm trying out seems pretty sweet. Have to see how it performs under battlefield conditions.
