Well we headed out again last Friday night to Salmon Beach to fish the waters off of Ucluelet.

Saturday was a bit of of sleep in day and we hit the tide bad and had to wait to launch the boat. I tied some leaders etc. while Jake went and got the keys to the boat out of the trailer (that I forgot). When he got there the boys decided to browse our lot and Jake took some shots of them. I'm guessing a spiker and and two.

Great Bear Rock. If you look close you can see two eagles sitting on top.

Definately not as nice as last Saturday out there but not snotty either.

Saw this what I am assuming is a weather buoy out there on the bank. Can anyone tell me it it is Environment Canada's or possibly NOAA's?

We got into fish but not the ones we were after pic's coming.......

We trolled alot on the South corner looking for halibut. We were using glow bud hootchies with glow green flashers which have worked for us in the past. I decided to switch up and try "the turd". Well no halibut but those springs sure like cruising close to bottom this time of year and Jake was the first to hook up one.

Nothing beats the smile that comes to ones face after fighting and landing a Spring salmon. This one went 11 lbs. Perfect eating/smoking size.

Second hook up was mine using the turd. First fish for me using this particular lure.

A nice 12 lber for the smoker.

I think that may be a wave buoy. It looks similar to one developed at UVic by a co-worker of mine. If it is, be sure to leave it alone, it's collecting valuable data constantly.

We didn't give up once for the hunt of the flatties. Pounded every hump and hill on the South corner. We spotted 3 sea otters out there near a hump and missed a picture of them. We decided to try jigging around this hill and thought we had a small chicken but turned out to be a great big Yellow Eye.

Jake hoping for a chicken.

The result. We weighed it and it was just shy of 10 lbs.

Today was way nicer on the water. Same drill. Troll and jig troll and jig. Getting to know the area alot however is a good thing. If we don't do any better in a couple of weekends it's off to Tofino to our old faithfull spot.

I just found out yesterday there are different versions of it too:-D. A guide buddy of mine says he stuffs an orange colored needle fish hootchie inside of it and it works wonders this time of year.

Canon G10 I picked up this winter. I want to start taking better shots without going full digital SLR. It only has a 5 times zoom which sucks but overall I'm really happy with it.

Yes but next weekend I have sworn to myself that there will be no fishing and something black and furry in the photos:-D. We'll see.

Saw a nice 2-3 year old on the road Saturday night but no camera. I didn't have a rifle with me either:?. Would have made a great sausage bear:-D.

Hell there right in the community but there is no hunting allowed inside the borders.

This little one was 50 feet from us walking the dog one evening last year.

I miss that place :(
By the way that is a wave indicator. I worked up there on the water for years both commercial and sport. When you hear the swell report and weather on the radio and the lady in the recording says "La Parouse bank wind wave and swell hight" that is where it is coming from.
you are in the wrong spot! TD#'s 007-664

There is anothe buoy like it up off Florincia beach i think it was. Good fishin there at times too

I figured it was a weather buoy with a wave sensor in that dome. So I guess it is Enviroment Canada's.

I know there is one(haven't seen it though) out at La Parouse but this one was on the SW corner so I think it was in the wrong spot:-D. I saw a Coast Guard/research vessel out there so I wonder if they placed it there.

Thanks Chuck. You should come out and give it a whirl some day. Come in late July or beginning of August as the salmon fishing is unreal that time of year.

That one must be new. I dont remember there being one on the Corner.

I was out there once with a friend of mine, We were just bummin around looking for a fish. It was around 2in the afternoon and there was not a soul out there. We were using Tomic's 7" 602 and could not keep the 20's off. It was rediculous! we'd drop a rod start the other and "BAM" off goes the first. Called another friend on the cell that couldnt make it out, had his number put it and hit send when the clip popped. All he got at "hello" was zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
he's still mad at that.
Keep your pic's coming I still miss that place

Nice! already hooking into the springs? I think we'll be heading over to winter harbour some time in june and see if we can't find some halis and maybe some springs! we're getting a new yamaha put on the back of the boat so we wont have to worry about engine problems. How many miles were you out?

Yup Hali's and Dungees can actually pay for them selves if minimal investment is made and multi species trips are planned:wink:.

Went out on Saturday in the snot and Jake got pretty sick but kept fishing with a smile in between chum sessions. He's a tough kid:twisted:. We picked up a couple of springs, a couple of nice 15-20 lbs chickens, and a nice ling cod so it was worth it. Slept in on Sunday and cleaned up the boat and trailer etc. Left the lot around noon.

We're heading out again this weekend. I've been hearing the same thing about Long Beach bank and Florencia Bay. The weather looks good this weekend so it should be doable. We'll have to hook up on the weekend of the 11th. See you at the beach:-D
