Last night I shot my first Grizz, he is about 6 1/2 feet. There isnt much of a story, I spotted him in a cut block about 300yds from the road, and decided top let him live, then a couple of days later my dad and I were out and I decided to make a new hunting memory with dad. I ranged him at 269yds and one shot through the heart and he managed to go another 30yds before collapsing.

The old man was there to help move and hold bear parts while I tried to skin the bear before dark, we finished skinning by fire light, after that he carried the rifles.

I am in the Elk valley in a town called Elkford, region 4-23. I was about 10km north of my house, there has been no snow in that cut block for about 1 month, but we havent had very nice weather, it has rained or snowed off and on for the last month and a half. Now I have to help my friend get his bear, he has the other tag for our zone, hopefully he can get a bigger one.

Looks like a gorgeous very honest 6-1/2 foot bear with a great looking head....Size doesn't mean chit.

I've seen a lot of "7-1/2" foot bears that looked an awful lot like a 6 footer.
Don't believe half of what you hear, that is a very respectable mountain bear.

Nothing like hunting with your Dad is there?

Congratulations!

j270wsm is my son, I really enjoy hunting with him!
When I first saw the grizzly, I knew that he was keeper, judging by the beautiful colored hide. It only took j270wsm a few seconds to get out of the truck and load up. After talking and ranging him we decided that he was a smaller bear than what he wanted, but I told him that he might never get to find another bear again this year or for life as draws go!
It was a few tense minutes after the shot as the griz ran over the small hump and we could no longer see him, took about 20 minutes of looking when I see J270wsm throwing log size branches at the bear, after two or three throws he calls out and said he's done. After that is was skinning time, had to do the last 30 minutes by firelight as we didn't bring flashlights with us. Walking thru the cut block after dark was fun, shins will never be the same again!!
Congrats once again my son.

Photobucket is turning into a bunch of rank BO granola munching tree huggers.
Very ignorant of them to delete peoples pics without notifying them first incase they may need to recover pics from the site.

Nice Bear for sure, for once the animal actually looks bigger than the hunter says it was instead of the other way around!

Have you noticed that before?? Technical glitch??? I only use photobucket for my video clips which, so far, have only contained live animals.

No I wont be getting the G bear jacket, it was the easiest way to carry the hide, since I forgot the pack frame at home. I have washed that sweater 3 times and it still stinks like bear.

Another grizz down. My friend(Scott) was drawn for the same area that I was, we hunted together a couple of times and told each other where we seen bears or sign. Scott shot his bear on may 18th. I dont have any pics yet.
Aparrently they (Scott, Darrell, and Cody - Darrell's 12yr old son) were watching a couple of bore's and a sow, decided to hike in and see what would happen. After hiking for a while they got to a point where they were able to see the sow and one of the bore's,( I am not too sure what happened next or why it happened) and decided to make a couple of cow calls or a varmint calls, but one of the bores showed up close to 100yds away and charged. Darrell was getting video footage while Cody ( 12yrs old) and scott were left to shoot, In the end there was a dead bear with 8 slugs in it, 2 adults and a 12yr old that was scared S**T less.
I was told the bear is around the 7' mark but will know more in the next couple of days, I will post pics when I get them.
