I first spotted my bear on the main forest service road,as i drove around the bend,at about 500 yards!
I stopped the truck and glassed the bear,he was a good bear!
unfortunately he looked up and ran for cover before I could make a plan!
I know my area quite well and there is a trail that runs paralell with the road.
so i started walking down it ,after a mile or so sure enough there he was!
about 1/4 mile further down!
the gravel trail i was on was pretty noisy so i removed my footwear, and closed the distance to 200 yards!
I layed down against a log on the side of the trail and raised my 7mm.08
he was facing me,when i noticed his huge ears, which surprised me for a big bear.
I waited for him to turn and he offered me a quartering away shot!
I sent the 140gr nosler partition on its way!
The impact knocked him of his feet but he got back up and bolted into the thick timber!
he ran through about 100 yards of bl0w down before colapsing!
I was stoked!!
I was alone so could not take any field pictures {plus no camera}
and no tape measure but i have a 6' arm span and i could not reach from nose to tail.
I skinned him and butchered him and made my way home!
the next day I rolled the skin out for some pictures and did some measuring!
he measured 6'10" from nose to tail and exactly 6'10" from front claws to front claws!
PICS TO FOLLOW!!
