View Full Version : April 30th Blackie

First saw this blackie Apr 12 this yr and thought he was a solid bear...nothing too big but a solid bear. None of us had shot a blackie since 2007 so we were due for an adventure.
Here's a crappy video clip through the spotter taken on Apr 12 with my still camera.

http://s67.photobucket.com/albums/h281/StoneSheep/?action=view&current=April122010.mp4

Saw him again next time out but he was in a nasty spot and I was alone.

Spotted him last night just before 6pm in a decent spot and my buddy said he was interested in making a play. Game on!

After about an hour of closing the distance we were getting close to the spot where we last saw him but we had a difficult time re-locating him. Eventually we spotted him bedded on a cliff face with a commanding view. We were able to close the distance to 229 yrds and he offered us an uphill head-on shot. Buddy got a good rest and put him down with one shot.
Finished processing him just after midnight and after a 2hr grueling pack out we were back at the trucks. The good ole Wilderness Wanderer did not disappoint as the hip-belt blew apart about halfway out:?.
Bed by 3am. Slightly groggy this morning

Always an adventure!

Haven't had time to practice this spring and having a grizz tag is putting more pressure on getting projects done around the house.
May have to wait until next yr.

Failure..repair..failure...repair...failure ....repair....failure....nice design but there are some inheirent weaknesses that need to be addressed. I offered to help them with some mods and they accepted my offer but I haven't got around to doing it yet. Might just be easier to get a new pack:?.

Devildog..bear only squared 6'3". Nice solid bear, nice coat but not a monster by any stretch. No noodle measurements yet.

Still another decent bear roaming those hills.
Saw this stalky looking brownie a couple of weeks ago which is the same bear I filmed two yrs ago. Had him @31 yrs last yr with my bow but the wind shifted(different bear than I chased with F/D).
He's got a really choppy, stiff-legged unique walk and a scarred-up face. Not a long bear but he's pretty thick.

I'd bet he has some artharitis or an old injury. Wasn't much flex in his spine when he walked.

Oddly....I dumped my clothes in the hamper just inside the bedroom door as soon as I got in the house(normally I would have left them in garage). The next day son was playing hallway hockey just outside the bedroom door and low and behold he finds a tick buried in his head.
There aren't many trips over there that don't result in a tick or three.

BCRams is here and he brought his Barney.
He's looking for some excuse to get into sheep-shape:mrgreen:.

Might be more of a weenie roast/BS session than a hunt....but that could change quickly.

Whats RAMS doing this far south, even with highs of 13 degrees, he's probably suffering from heat stroke.

He's got the Hunter. We were just discussing it last night and he mentioned that you might be interested in one. The Hunter is big enough to put a whole sheep in it as well as all your gear at the BEGINNING of the hunt.
The Pinnacle is bigger. Probably big enough to pack out a bear......whole:?.

She's 7 going on 8....but she likes older men:evil:.

After talking it over with my wife she suggested bear hunting Friday and on Sat aft/eve at our house... firepit/smokies/BS/meeting debriefing.

Works quite a bit better for me and I wouldn't have to chance taking my daughter on a marathon hike. She would be game but I would be packing her up the hill and, after last week's workout, that just may push me over the edge. I could de-bone her but She might need them later in life:wink:.

He definitely piqued my interest (more). http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/images/icons/icon14.gif

I am still working on my story...ie. how to explain to the wife that my two Mystery Ranch packs (6500 and Crew Cab) aren't good enough already. I'm focussing on the "40 yo" angle....limited time left for h/c backpacking, need to make sure I have the "right" pack for my needs and to maximize what time I have left... :) LOL I see myself in the dog-house regardless.

That said, I am sure if I had both and felt the need to sell one, it wouldn't be hard to get a decent price.
