The West Kootenays has the highest percentage of "off color" bears of anywhere in the province....In the opinion of one of the head biologists who looks after these things....

I have personally seen all colours - Cinny, Chocolate, blonde and anything in between...Just no kermodes:biggrin:

I seen quite a few cinnamon colored bears last year in 7-16 but they all seemed kind of small. Is this common for all colored bears to be small?

I think its cause they get shot before they get a chance to get big. Guys will take a cinny of a size that they would pass on if it was black, just because its a cinny. My opinion anyways.

i saw a huge cinn bear last year unfortunately she had 3 jet black cubs tailing her. I saw this bear atleast 7-8 times and once i almost had to fire a shot over her head to get her off the road so i could get back to my truck. This bear was roaming around region 3.

I am in the West Kootneys and I can honestly say my first 10 bears were every color but black! The spot I hunt it seems the gene pool has a blonde/light brown streak because it wasn't until the last couple of years I actually harvested "black bears". I have been bear hunting since I was a little kid and I have taken my share of bears and I can count the "all black bears" on one hand:D If you want a color phase I know a good spot..................................

Trust me I am a much better bear hunter than an elk hunter:biggrin: The elk are usually very safe even when I am trying!!! Lots of bears to go around here though:wink: I have the grizz tag for the area this spring so the "black" bears will be safe for the most part too.

I've seen lots of bears at the opposite end of 3-17 (opposite the hat creek area closer to lytton)I spend alot of time in this area in oct. and still manage to turn up a few bears.Last year my hunting partner missed one and i passed on 2 and saw a sow (cinn) with 3 black cubs following her.I saw those cubs on about 7-8 ocassions last year and watched how fast they grow we ran into each other so many times we were on a first name basis.(and yes i did name them, i had to call them something).

its around July. there are also bass and catfish in the lake. and all the carp if you don't want to keep them, go to a Hungarian man that makes carp soup, i wonder what that tastes like. i will try to find the date when is on. last years top prize was a nice pontoon boat.
