I am new to hunting and am looking for a bushnell scope for my new x-bolt 30-06( I am getting bushnell because i can get a great deal on them). I plan on hunting deer and hopefully elk in the christian valley area. Which model would you recommend between the 4200 and the 6500? What magnification should i be looking for? thx

if you click on the search button and type scopes, or bushnell, you should find some really good threads that have covered this topic extensively.
I use the 3200 3x9 x 40 and it has done great. Welcome and happy hunting:-D

You shouldn't need more than the 4200. Not at this stage in the game anyhow.

The 6500 has a higher range in magnification but other features are the same as the 4200.
3X9 is a great all round range, decent for in close bush work, and suitable for reaching out some.
Your type of hunting will decide if you need or want more on either end of that scale.

I have a bushnell 4200 on both my Browning X bolt 30-06 and my Sako 300 WSM. Completely satisfied with them both.

Buy Willeerts' VXII 3x9 Leupold instead. With Leupolds' warranty response you won't be disappointed if anything goes wrong with it.

Advice is don't buy a bushnell.

Buy a leupold. Apparently the vortex scopes are decent scopes as well.

Warranty work took over 5 months and only got it back because there was major pressure being put on the rep. That was after it fogged up, believe it was the first year I had the scope.

my friend got his bushnell back in less than two weeks. I am looking at waiting months when i send my leupold back to the states for warrantee work so it is all subjective. I have two ellite scopes, one 3200 and one 4200 and have had no problems.. My leupold (clearly a much better scope) hasnt been nearly as reliable.. That doesnt take anyting away from the quality product and service they offer, thats just my experience..And the same would hold true with bushnell.. They offer a good scope at a resonable price.

to awnser the op's actual question, x2 on the 2.5-10 4200.

Just bought my 3200 Bushnell today. Sent my Leaupold to the states and didn't get it back for about 3 months. Big hassel.

I have a 4200 and vx-III. Get the 4200 for an all purpose hunting rifle. It has better glass and eye relief than the vx-II. Bushnell will honor warranty work on ELITE scopes if you do encounter a problem. Have had my 4200 for 4 1/2 years not had a problem with it fired many rounds from different rifles. If your willing to spend more money I would get a conquest or vx-III over a 6500.

Sent my Leaupold to the states and didn't get it back for about 3 months. Why wouldn't you just send them too Alberta ???

the guy in alberta still says he wont work on a mark 4 with a illuminated reticle problem.. they were apologetic and said that i had to ship it to the states. I called leupold and they recommended having a import permit to get it back into Canada, or I would have to try to get it added onto the first shipment of theirs that they could manage. I think i need an export permint too! It will take at least a month i think. I have been procrastinating sending it away, but i will sometime soon just to get it over and done with. I know this isnt a problem with a regular scope, i had my vxIII 3.5-10 fixed in Alberta and it was great service and really fast turnaround.

I lost one of my dust covers for the scope adjustment, got replacement in 4 days from Alberta.

Glad someone likes their bushnells, I have an "awesome" scopecheif for sale if they want another. I upgraded to a leo vx II.

I have both Bushnell and Leupold scopes, and they are both fine scopes. Just don't try to compare a $35 Walmart Bushnell to a $500 Leupold - not a fair comparison.

I have an older B&L (now under Bushnell name) Elite 3000 for about 17 years, and I have beaten the crap out of it, dropped it several times etc. - it has never had a problem with remaining fog-free or on target.

One of my Leupolds likes to fog up the outside of the lenses a lot more than I'm prepared to tolerate, and the Bushnell lens coatings (rain guard) helps with this aspect.

I would suggest that you stick with the 3200, 4200 or 6500 series as they are made in Japan and are of very good quality. To get a Leupold of similar quality/clarity, you're going to have to pay somewhat more.

thanks night hawk. Ive decided on the 4200 3x9 40mm. I can get it for a great price and most people have told me thats more than adequate for the hunting I plan on doing.
