I went to Squamish after lunch with my recurve bow and wood arrows. Covered some ground on foot. Saw a big herd of elks and some deer. Then got back into my truck and drove to another spot. Again did some foot work. By almost 7pm, ran into a blackie. Treed him and arrowed him upwards. Plugged the stick into his heart. Not too big. Live weight over 200 lbs. Pretty lean though. Should be good for jerky. Brought my camecorder, but never had chance to use it. So took a couple of photos afterwards with my cell phone. Will post later. First time out this year. Nothing to complain about.

Congrats on your first bow bear!
Made it out last night locally for the first time and saw one really solid blackie....but didn't pack any iron or bow.
The good weather coming our way should bring them out in masses.

Have been busy for the whole day. Skinned the bear out, took the meat to the butcher and dropped the hide off at Ray's place. The bear is around 5'.

Great work!
I see your recurve had just enough penitration to pierce the heart.
Excellent shot!

Great hit. Perfect. Good choice of fletch colour for spring and for bear. Gongrats.

Nice shot! Great bear. Did your arrow go through the sternum?? Might be interesting the get the story attached to the tag.

Now you have a nice bear and unlike most, you can still make that Tag soup guys talk about after every hunting season.
Great pics, congrats on the bow kill.

Long story short. I didn't even see the tag when I ran into the bear and never even thought I'd have seen any bear with an ear tag. It's when I walked down the creek did I notice something shiny on the ear. Anyways I phoned MOE after I got home. The bear was relocated from North Van before. The CO didnt call me an a-hole for killing a tagged bear. :D He said it's just a matter of time. ;)
It's interesting that Bruin mentioned sternum. For your note, my recurve is a 56" Blackwidow 61# draw length at 28". If I hadn't shot upwards and the arrow hadn't had to go through the sternum, the arrow should've gone a lot deeper.

Good shot, although not the penetration, you just have to get inside the heart/lung area for a kill shot. I did a goat the same way.
