My wife Carol and I have been hunting this same area of our local pine forest for the last week. Haven't been able to catch up with roaring stags on 3 occasions but while watching over an area of 2yr old trees (4ft high) when this young stag wandered through in front of the missus. One shot, off hand at 50m in the base of the neck from her .308, and it's photo time.:-D

Good for her..I would like to see more women get involved in the sport here. My wife hunts same as myself just goes in the woods and lets the deer come to her/me..We sit in our blinds watch, drink coffee. Seen her sit all day she loves it. Really loves it when the wait pays off for her.....

Nice...
The hubby and I are heading to NZ for a month next Feb. He is from Tauranga, but hasnt been back for over 10 years.
I hear all his hunting stories about stags, wild pigs, goats....
Looking forward to seeing the country.

Congrats on the nice looking stag!

He's just a 2yr old, and weighs about 80kg, (175lb) gutted, skin on.
Big mature red stags pre rut can be up to 160kg (350lb)

Now then: How hard is it to get my wife a hunting license in New Zealand? Can she pass for an aboriginal?(she's a red head) How much would that cost, not including air fare? P.S. I'm glad to see your wife has the sense to use the finest calibre of rifle for the stags.
Nice looking animal !

Hunting license/permits are free for our public lands.
NZs indigenous/first immigrants are called Maoris not Abbos, they're Australian (thank God)
Yep, .308 is a great Ladies calibre. Ouch:lol:

Congrats to your wife. It's nice to see women who genuinely share the same interest as their husband.
