I have to work the first 4 days of the season, but I dont think that there will be too many bears out yet, atleast not in the East Kootenays.

I hope you get a good one.

Maybe you should try around Hope and Sowaqwa near the lower Coquihalla for that huge brown bruin I saw last year.

Some here have also seen him and labeled him the "Hope Monster".... maybe 400 to 500 lbs. I got a grainy low light picture of him last spring and he was a real hog.

I will not be upset if you take him. I will applaud you if you do.

cheers

Thanks for the info but I don't do hogs anymore:mrgreen:, I will get out in the next couple weeks with one other lazy ass mod, looking for a tender meat bear.

Went out yesterday morning for a couple of hours and got stuck in the snow with my quad, alittle to early for this neck of the woods, (South Okanagan) No snow in the low elevations but nothing to green yet either!

Might be the same one my Buddy saw by the toll booth. He was a biggun.

Every year I laugh at these April 1st bear hunting threads. Even with a mild winter like this one, you ain't going to have much luck until the end of April, with May being the best bang for your buck. Why such a hurry to get out and see nothing but snow????

So you'll sit in a truck and suck up fumes all day in a vague hope to see that 1 in a million bear that woke up early?? Why not just put the boots on a go for a hike and maybe find some antlers. Bring the camera along and maybe you'll see some other wildlife too.

Who says I haven't been doing that either? Shed Count = 2.5 :-D

I think people are just excited to get their guns out and get out in bush. I've been out lots this winter for predators so I don't mind waiting until may.

But i also enjoy going for a cruise in the YJ with my dad checkin out some new areas. Most likely won't see a bear but its still exciting to know they are open.

in our neck of the woods the bears are out not in big numbers yet. roads and slashes that are brown this time of year are very green. we had a nasty wind storm up here today with snow dropping down low. we hiked up and got shooters trail cam today. i would much rather be doing that than going to work or sitting around the house. anyways every day you are out there in your secret honey holes you learn something new about the area. good luck everybody, and i am sure there will be many pics to come soon.

When you do find a black this early it will probably be a boar they are always the first out in the spring.

The sows are latter coming out I guess many have young one to take care of so thats why they are latter.
