My daughter turned ten last year and I got her a junior license right away. Unfortunately, grouse weren't open during the September junior season, so we passed up a covey of blues and progressed straight to deer.:-D No doubt, the best seven dollars you can spend!

I started my daughter out target shooting with the .22 then advanced up to the .222. We borrowed my friend's .300 savage and after a little more target practice, she bagged a nice two point mulie on our second day out. I'm going to get her a .243 this year. She can't wait for September.

If your son is 10 then he can actually take the core program and get his own hunter number and license as well as LEH tags. The only disadvantage to the Jr. License is that it's your tags that get burned up. Although this isn't a problem for most people. The best part of the hunt is watching the look on their faces when they seal the deal on their first animal.

Good advice, Swamper. I'm hoping to get my daughter to do the core program this year. Living in the Okanagan, it's nice to have my own tags. She had me tagged out in Region 3 the first week of September. That made for big changes to my own hunting plans last season. But the look on her face was definitely worth it!
