I think you need to lighten up.
It was a kind suggestion with input as well, hence the number of views and no replies (this happens often for the reason I mentioned)

I'm into astronomy...and Bogen/Manfrotto tripod's are the most favored for binoculars and scopes. they're stable and with the appropriate head (their mini video liquid is the best) creates a platform that can suffer a lot of abuse and be used for a multitude of products with different weights.

while he's in the US, GarrettOptical.com carries some nice packages to consider. I don't think he has anything in the spotting scope category, he's got a lot of nice bino's. I'm thinking of buying my dad his 8x42's Triplet Apo bino's for his anniversary come May and grab one of his Bogen combo's for myself. the bino is: garrettoptical.com/Garrett-8x42-Phase-Coated-Waterproof-Binocular-p/c0842dcf-twp.htm
the tripod combo's I'm considering are:
garrettoptical.com/Bogen-Manfrotto-055XDB-Tripod-with-501HDV-Head-b055xdb-501hdv.htm
or
garrettoptical.com/product-p/b028b-501hdv.htm

If you're going to go Manfrotto throw away that piece of shit plastic "self-locking" clip and get the metal die-cast one. Mine broke, which sent my Zeiss 85mm toppling onto the hard rocky ground, loss of use for nearly 3 months while I awaited warranty repair.

718SHB DIGI MINI 3W TRIPOD BLK SHORT

This came with no plastic shit clips. Ive had nothing but good times with this tripod. Fast setup, fast and easy movement, stable while moving and rock solid. Also sets up quite high if you want to stand behind it.

I have the exact same tripod... The locking plate on mine was made of plastic. I bought the tripod off eBay for $99.00 new.

It's a great tripod, don't get me wrong but the plastic clip was definitely annoying, I am glad it broke at the end of my trip!

I have said it before....K&K with ultralight pistol grip head, I absolutely love this thing! I left my binos/spotter in the pic for size comparison, this is the 45" model. aluminium construction, quick release bracket, with a "lay over" feature on the pistol grip to use as a rifle rest.

They make them in three different sizes, 36", 45", & 65" respectively, the pistol grip head holds dead solid, and for the rock rest this thing gives ya, worth every penny as far as a reasonably "light wieght" tripod is concearned.

Shack what does that unit weigh? The Manfrotto 718 is about 2lbs.

The tripod wieghs in at 2.9lbs and another 12oz for the pistol grip action head, so like I said...."reasonably lightwieght" but its dead solid, and the pistol grip head is such a pleasure to use and MUCH lighter than the manfroto pistol grip head. Actually, after looking up you manfroto 718 I was shocked to see it wieghs in at just over 3 pounds (1.4kgs) so very similar wieght!

I am currently using a Gitzo 63" carbon fiber tripod with a Manfrotto pan head and it is just superb under my Leica 62 armoured spotter, 16-48x. But, I am a "geezer" and want to cut weight as much as I can, sooo, I will be buying one of these K&K setups this year as well.

Boots, pack, optics are THE crucial aspects of mountain hunting and this is where you really need to concentrate. Fancy $600.00 camo jackets and trippy little doodads are for beginners and are usually a waste of money, but, a pair of properly fitted Hanwags, a Mystery Ranch pack and Leica, Zeiss or Swaro optics make a BIG difference and are WORTH the coin you pay to get them.

Amen! I love it... "trippy little doodads are for beginners" it doesn't take very many mountain hunting trips to figure out what you DO and DON'T need.

Iv'e heard the manfrotto 718shb has been discontinued. I just bought a manfrotto 7302YB from lens & shutter. It weighs 3.2pounds/1.47 kilos is more compact than the shb at 14 inches and has a taller maximum height 57. It cost a little more though. This one also comes with a metal locking clip.
