I would not use WD 40 myself, any oil base will work butter, olive oil, peanut butter etc.

Whatever you choose to do, do NOT use WD40! I love it, but that's the last thing you want your dog licking. From a toxicological point of view, it's incredibly nasty stuff - almost guaranteed kidney and liver failure once ingested. :?

Sap is vegetable based so any veggy oil product will work to dilute it.
Plant + plant = ok
plant + mineral = not as good

Get out the plastic and have a Mazola wrestle

Oh, you were asking about the dog, not the girl

Another safe and easy product to use is waterless hand cleaner.
It is made from animal fat reduction and is safe for the dog.
Works like a hot damn for taking paint off your hands too.
A whole lot safer than bathing in mineral spirits. Your liver keeps track of all the toxic solvents that you expose yourself too - not good.

Use "Goo-B-Gone". It's citric based and easily and quickly took sap off my windshield. Smells OK too.

Not recommending WD40,but it is fish oil based.Removes all sorts of things and even gives relief for arthritis.Spray it my hands and eases the aches.

Try Miracle Whip sandwich spread. As a logger for 13 years I always used it to remove heavy pitch before I would jump in the shower; works like a charm and your dog won't be harmed licking it.

Mayo gets sap out all the time. I'm a scaler and a buckerman and it takes the pitch out everytime
