Headed out of chilliwack with a buddy (Alpine Addict) to do a little shed hunting. figured the area would be good wintering grounds. Pretty flat land, rolling hills, around 3000-3500 feet, but although lots of sign, saw no deer, except the ones on the way up, glassed 35 on the way up, on private, fenced ranchland.

Pretty sure it is more of an early season spot due to all the rubs!

So here's some pics, just to keep the winter blues away from everyone,
It was dam cold at night, about -10
Water bladder on the badlands pack froze solid lol!

Ya, I was trying to figure out whether the scrapes would have been from the rut, or from september when they rub their velvet off, I was not too sure how to tell. I checked most of the rubs and found no blood or velvet, but mice and other animals would have eaten it I guess,

How do you differentiate between rubs made in the rut (Nov.) and ones for shedding velvet (sept.)?

I would think the late rubs will be more agressive than early season rubs. In the last pic, the willow looks pretty beat up. Those look like territorial rubs which would be made in Oct/Nov. Pretty open country so I'm guessing mule deer. Whitetails prefer thicker cover for their rubs and theres usually a scape right next or nearby it. You should check it out in late Aug.

Hey everyone, I just started my hunting career last season for deer, And it has definatly caught on. I also just started on this site last week and quite enjoying

it. Good info and great pictures. Just wondering, i have looked in regs, and online, but can't seem to find bow only areas. The regs have a small section but in

no detail. Do i have to go into municipalities for in depth?

I'm up in the highlands district and don't know. I've heard bow areas up here but i'm not about to walk through the bush anywhere i want. Any help would be

awesome....One thing extra, A couple guys were up in Region 5 late last summer and driving down the road they stumbled upon this monster. ENJOY!

Yur links no worky!!
As for the Highlands there is no crown land available to hunt on.
You can bow hunt in certain areas, but you need a permit and a land owners permision. (most do not care for bowhunting)
Best bet is to go down to the municipal hall and inquire.
