For dollys (bull trout actually- often incorectly called dolly varden which are mainly on the coast) they like big food for their size and mainly eat other fish. Assuming you are fishing with gear good sized crocodiles, flat fish and rapella type stuff is a good bet. Fish deep and not with a real fast retrieve. They are also light sensative so first and last light is most productive or even in the dark if that works for you. Fun fishing! good luck

Used big spinners and a "Hockey Stick Lure" on Kootenay in the Fall.....down to about 120 feetish. Good results.

Normally, around May-long you shouldn't need to fish too deep yet.

Right on the surface with plugs or bucktails is usually the ticket at that time of year. The fishing in Revelstoke seems to be quite a bit more spotty than in Kinbasket.

I saw some guys on a site (i think from alaska) fishing bull trout with a fly rod? that would be fun!
eyed eggs at that time of year?
leechs?

So far I have had good luck with coyote spoons. the rainbow trout and the plain silver. Give them a little bit more of a bend to get a good action and put them down 40- 60 feet. troll slow and fish close to rock cliffs. The depth i gave you is what I fish here on the coastal lakes. The water will be cooler where you are so try a little shallower. plugs and bucktails work well also close to the surface. Good luck. If you can keep one they taste awesome. Buy far one of my favorite fish to eat.

Agreed. When I said fish deep back there, I meant near the bottom but not necessarily in deep water. I remember a May long weekend at a creek mouth into Williston lake years back. Me and two other guys fishing off the beach with two piece articulated flat fish type baits had a triple header right at day break. The other two guys landed a 6 and an 8 and mine was 12 lbs  We were in about 6 ft of water. ..

rainbow trout rapela trolled behind 8wt fly rod with sinking line is fun. fly rods are great for trolling, I also use them on the downrigger with 15ld maxima. apex are very productive for bulls crome, watermellon, red/white. bigger is better for bulls. I have also had good success with the new baitrix fake anchovies.

When I said "not Deep" I meant what GG said.....plugs drug behind the boat with no weight....just plaining down 4-6'.

dollies are feeding where the bait fish are ..... mostly kokanee up there ,
near creek mouth area's and gravelly/sandy shores should be best in the morn . try a flasher or dodger in front of a hoochie , otherwise go with a 5 or 6" plug/apex .

They like a bucktail pattern, or sculpin, white, bright, or dark all supposedly work at times.

It would be interesting trying to land one on the fly in the lake. I would think you'd have a hard time getting deep enough.

went fishing on lake revelstoke this past weekend. a yellow/orange apex was the only thing that worker. was in a large bay trolling around and got a 3-4 pounder :P really, and i mean REALLY good fishing middle of july up there. find a large creek mouth and youll hook into 10+ pounders evercast, bucktails and five of diamonds in the creek mouths. goodluck
