These are some of are hunting dogs we had When I was in the Army in Southern GA. I had not hunted with dogs but it came naturaly to them so I followed there lead. I plan to get a breeding pair shipped up here next year. Some of the bloodlines of these are Jeep,Yellowjohn,Chinaman, and Honnybun.

Yup they wer all REAL pits not like the inbred trash up here. They are all game dogs. The last one Is Ronnan he was My best buddy Some of the scars are from Boars. I rescued alot of dogs down there and raised them as pets.

Yes they are the perfect animal to hunt with. No better catch dogs as well as loyal to the death. I knew coming home to canada there would be alot of problems for me as well as the dogs (anti pitbull movment). And the climit here isn't good for them. I am not even sure you can hunt most game here with dogs? I no you can use them for treeing but I dought you can use them for much ells.Last thing you want is 4/5 dogs wound up tight with nothing but each other at the base of a tree. We mainly used them for the pig problems down South.

North of central alberta has a major hog problem... closest I know of to hunt the way those dogs would be able to cut it.
I imagine you could chase bears with them if you could walk them in on one but if they latched on to the bear, it'd be the last bear they ever chased.
Catching hogs with kevlar vests on is one thing, big game is another.

Yah a bear wouldn't be good because they can paw em to the ground even with there Kevlar vests and colar they could be hurt/dead too easy. The biggest problem is if an animal gos to tree then you have 4/5 catch dogs going crazy with nothing but each other to go after and they will when there wound up.
Hogs In the south are VARY Dangerous. All it takes is the smallest flic of there head to open a Hunter/dog/ cow wide open and, Many hunters have been injured not even hunting them. I have seen them as big as 600/700 With a 4/5" tusk/tooth but average is 60-300, The record boar was about 100 miles from were I lived I think it was just over 1100 lbs.
. I lived between a Pennut farm and cotton feilds lol Worst place ever. I would never let the kids out to play without putting one or two dogs out first.
Funny I have been treed by a hog lol
I found good homes for every dog befor I left, I new they are not popular up here. Just thought I would show something differant for a hunting dog.

you most definatly did that
im sorry to say i am not fond of pits at all, let alone pits bread to take down hogs of the size you are talking about.
if you are looking to breed pits go find a line that it is not in their blood to "CATCH" things, it is not legal here. And it will be bad for their reputation.
There are gottie and bluenose here ( i know nothing of these dogs) and they look pure enough.

Gottie/blue/blue nose/Razors edge etc.. are the worst exam, of an basterdized breed, They are PET bulls and tend to be human agressive as well as stupid.
They are also useless in the bush (as they have NO stamina) I didn't list all the blood lines I had just a few but, a true game dog Is normally small even half the size or these new breed dogs but, Could dispatch one in seconds. Ronnin My Best dog came from a long line of hog/game dogs and was his size (60 or so lbs) because he pulled every day and ran the tredmill 2 hours a day as well.
I should say "I thought about bringing dogs up" but, I won't this is not the place to own an animal like that and they tend to scare people.
There are more haters of the breed then anti hunting people lol
Now I am looking at dogs like Coon hounds ect.. That are more wecome (in Canada) and fantastic hunters as well as pets.

Here are some of the best (game dog) bloodlines if anyone is interested.
Crenhaw
Sorrels
Dangerzone (a mix of 3 of the best)
Colby (the original Pit bull.and Largest)
Honeybun
Redboy
Yellow john
Jeep

Well as i said i dont know much about the breed, just that i am one of thoes people they scare. But we wont get into that because you like them and i dont, oh well.
all that aside what i do know is you being a guy who hunts with dogs (i couldnt say hounds man because a pitbull isnt a hound, but im sure the idea is the same) would have fun with any of the hounds here hunting cats and other animals here. you will be abel to hunt more critters here with hounds.

That is just what I have been looking at (hounds) I would love to get a pair. And you would not offend about the pitbulls I am not without my own conserns about other peoples hunting pits lol
I was hoping to find some that hounds that needed homes from the SPCA but only found a German pionter and don't no much about them. I also will have to train myself to help train the dogs unless it is just natural for them then, They can train me lol

Sounds pretty interesting down there.
Keep your eyes on the off topic section on here and the buy, sell and trade newspapers, there should be hound pups popping up for sale any time now.

id say you could pick up a hound or two at the spca or shelter. You might luck out and get a good one. But if you are looking to hunt have a good look at breeders you know the dog wont be bad.
But if you thinking rescue first hunting seccond good on ya best of luck.
i had a friend who hunted cougars lives in Shawnigan. It always sounded fun but i never did get to go. Funny thing the guy is one of my best friends

Darwin: Where abouts did you move to up here? There are a number of different rescue societies around. I got a gsp pup last year but when I was looking into different breeds there were quite a few hunting dogs in the lower mainland that had been rescued and were needing homes.

I am living in Smithers and we are moving to Granisle wich is still close.
I have searched all over the BCSPCA sites and tryed to find hunting breeds that need a good home but have had little luck,I can tell you the Victoria SPCA said they will now NOT let me addopt after I told them that the dog would be my hunting buddy and hunt???? If you still no of dogs in need of a family we would love to hear from you.
My family has a huge soft spot for dogs and would love to find 1/2.
Thanks Moosetaken

Darwin,

The odd free or cheap dog shows up here. There is also links to "used" sites elsewhere. It is quite sad actually how many dogs show up here because people who should have never got a dog did.

Thanks 835 I am on there everyday lol used to live in Vic. I did do a trial run with a beauty on there named "Copper" coon/bluetick hound loved him but they (owners)weren't sure how he was around kids so I took him for 2 days. He was fantastic around kids but, Bit me twice good when I picked up me 2 year old lol after the second time I had no choice and, had to take him back. The search continues.

Mentioning hunting in Victoria will make you about as popular as a lepper in a hot tub. There was a rescue group that had a lot of gsps and other pointers down in vancouver but I have forgoten their name. Hunting with dogs is a lot different here than down south so you may want to study the regs before deciding on a breed. There are so many choices and breeds and all have their fans. What type of hunting are you interested in? That may help in deciding a breed as well. The spca in dawson/fort st john seems to have more of the larger breeds or did last time I checked.

I would really like to hunt Cats as well as bear, but the dog/dogs would be pets as much as hunting buddys.I am doing alot of reading on breeds now. I do love the looks and what I have read about the Bluetick coon hounds

Interesting to see you used pits, a buddy of mine has a razor's edge and something else cross. No sign of the lack of stamina you mention, she'll run till her pads are bloody. She got away from the girls in camp one time while we were out dirtbiking, we were a good 45 minutes ride outta camp stopped for a smoke and she came galloping up to us. Wouldn't ride on a lap and just trotted back to camp beside us. He's suggested I take her out during bow season for help recovering but I wasn't sure if she'd be any good. Might just have to try her out this fall I guess.
She's got a really yappy bark too, yip and squeaks, never a deep woof.
